Sky Broadband is abysmal...

Hi, new to Sky (less than a week).  WiFi is nothing short of pants.

All WiFi connected devices hang/lag all day every day.

Open YouTube click a video 10 seconds of hanging before it loads.  Click on comments the circle (loading symbol) doesnt even spin it lags that bad.

Everything worked instantly with VM right up until the Sky installation.

Devices are high end mobiles and the Glass Gen 2.  WiFi should be more than capable of running these without a hitch.

Doesn't matter if it is YT, banking app, etc.

Sky says all devices are fine.  Which is a load of nonsense to be frank.

I have unplugged the router entirely.  Left it for 10mins then plugged it back in.  Same issues persist.

Any advice welcomed.

@CheckedUnicorn

What is the wifi signal like throughoutyour home because if it is on the poor side and if you have Wi-Fi Max on your account then Sky will loan up to 3 pods as you can read about here:

https://www.sky.com/help/articles/sky-wifi-max

So you can either call them on 150 from a landline phone or a mobile that has a Sky sim in it or Select "No, I still need help" at the bottom on the above link.

Re: Sky Broadband is abysmal...

Just upgraded to the white router. Speed has gone from 13 to 900 and the lag is appaling on all devices. Changed to wpa2 and disabled shield.

Hub 6 is an terrible bit of kit.

@CheckedUnicorn

I'm a believer in purchasing your own hub/ mesh system which should be better than any ISP supplied equipment.  Further, you should be able to use it with any ISP in one way or another.

My street now has an altnet provider called Digi offering £15 pm on 30 day contracts. However, as cheap as it is, I cannot afford unreliable broadband and so this   is where my own mesh/ hub comes into its own.

I have both ISPs connected directly to my hub/ mesh Asus XT9 from their respective ONTs. Digi is the primary provider while Aquiss (Openreach) automatically cuts in if there is a failure with Digi.

For 3  years the Asus mesh has delivered strong & fast WiFi to every room in my  3 storey home.

Former Sky HD+, Q and Stream customer
Now TV Sports + Entertainment + Cinema + Ultra Boost @ £33 pm
Digi £15 pm 900/900
3 x Asus XT9 mesh & 2 x Asus RT-AC58U
65" Samsung S92C OLED TV
6 other streaming TVs

Yep, this everyday. You can't expect to bounce around the cheapest broadband supplier and expect the best hubs, that's just not realistic (although the SR213 Max hub seems particularly poor for wifi). At least replace the wifi element of any ISP supplied hub.

Re: Sky Broadband is abysmal...

Tbf there are zero excuses for a company like Sky to provide a router that is as much use as a wet paper bag.  If their equipment is clearly not up to the task of providing reliable services then thats Sky failing to provide the agreed services.

I have routers i can use... does the Sky bucket (hub) have passthrough mode?

I read somewhere else you are unable to seperate the 2.4G and 5G channels on the Sky router?

I have the SR213 (white hub). Do Sky have other hubs?

Thanks

No Sky Hub model has ever had a modem mode

On the Max Hub that's correct.

The previous Hub is the SR203 Sky Broadband Hub from 2019.  There's also the Gigafast+ Hub but that's only for Sky Broadband on a CityFibre circuit (in the UK)

They have millions of customers so it's obviously capable for most, but if you have the option then turn off the Max Wifi and connect any routers or extenders in AP mode, you're basically setting up your own ad hoc wifi mesh system.
