Sky Broadband Speed.

Moved from alternate supplier to sky October 2025, upgraded from previous 150mb line to Skys Gigafast

The speed I am getting is not levels they guarantee, might be to the house but not in the house next to the Router.

Wi-Fi Speeds vary from 85 mps to 600mbs but are so inconsistant and virtualy at the lower end of those figures most times, day or night.

Been in contact with Sky and been passed to various sections and left on hold for long periods, 2 hours of calling on one day last week and cut off on one of those calls after 53 minutes, mainly on hold. Explained i have Wi- Fi Extenders around the house and speeds even worse on levels above ground floor. Explained i have never had an issues with previous broadband providers and speeds in the house.

They say they wont send anybody out unless i upgrade to Sky Max. I said i was not prpepared to do this at the extra cost as never had a problem before moving to Sky.

Eventualy last Wednesday Sky Tecnical said they would send a engineer and they would contact me within 72 hours to arrange a visit. Got a text on Saturday saying all sorted and speeds good to the house as they said over the phone but no vist.

What a waste of time you are Sky, your service is the worst i have every expereanced and you dont seem to want to sort issues or send engineers to check over things at the property.

Find myself left in to limbo paying for something i am not getting?

That's how Sky chooses to provide support for WiFi.  Speed delivered to the Hub over broadband is what's actually'guaranteed'.

Re: Sky Broadband Speed.

Is that the same as other broadband providers do or just Sky. I have never had a internal problem with WI- fI speed around the house before from other providers i have had.

@judge06

If you have a white Max Hub, repeated posts to this forum suggest its WiFi underperforms in some properties.

Re: Sky Broadband Speed.

Than you for your comments, you are confirming what i am now learning about sky broadband speeds.

As a Superuser do you have any ideas to possibly solve the issue we are getting with slow and varying speeds in and around the house. We have extenders, do the usual switching things on and off and unplug etc. Never had a problem internally with speeds before from other providers so how do we get sky broadband to deliver the speeds consistantly around the house.

I think you have 2 separate 2 issues when it comes to broadband viz. (1) speed to the ONT/hub where it enters your property and (2) WiFi speeds around the home.

(1) Speed to the ONT/hub can be measured using an ethernet cable connected to the hub using a laptop or pc. This will give you an accurate speed recording. I am currently on a 2.5Gbps plan with my ISP Digi using the web interface of the Asus XT9 at the ONT it recorded speeds of  1.9/1.4 down/up.

(2) WiFi speeds are invariably going to be slower the further you move away from the hub. Previous ISPs you used may have had better hubs than Sky's own. I purchased and use my own mesh system and I have fast strong WiFi in every room in my house using wireless backhaul e.g. 423/493 using WiFi on a laptop in an upstairs bedroom.

Broadband speeds are typically the same for any ISP on the Openreach network because they all purchase the same wholesale bands.

WiFi is not broadband, and the wireless capability of ISP hardware can vary significantly.
