Scam call

I had a call from a lady saying I had problems with WiFi dropping in and out. She asked me to search on my laptop and go onto a website [removed] to get support. I refused to go any further as it's a work laptop and disconnected the call. She then persistently called back ringing about 10 times until I answered. This time the call was from a different number. I quickly refused to go any further until they could prove they were from sky. She stated she couldn't disclose my details but she could set up a password with me so I know it's her. Again I said I need to know she's actually from sky, she then passed me onto a 'senior technician'. I had the same repeated conversation and said I would call sky to confirm. He then kept speaking over me asking me to search on the laptop to prove who they were. Even though I told them I had searched for the weebly address and sky forum says it's scam. He kept repeating himself and talking over to me and then finally he threatened to disconnect my internet and call back in 5 minutes which will prove it's sky. At which point I said I was hanging up and  ringing sky. He said his name was Paul Wilson.

Such calls are always a scam, and Weebly is a free website host much misused by criminals.  That one is a worse fake Sky site than usual ; )

Re: Scam call

I just had the same scam call. A man with an Indian accent said he was calling from Sky and checking my internet as it was running slow. I was sure it was a scam (Sky don't check your speed unless you complain) but played along for a while. He asked me what lights were flashing on my router, and to run a speed check and tell him upload and download speeds, then asked if I knew my guaranteed minimum download speed. I said it was 8Mb (which from memory is correct), but he insisted it was 65Mb. I laughed, as this was final proof it was a scam: I am over a mile from the cabinet and 65Mb is not possible here. He interrupted me explaining this, and directed me to a weebly website sky90.weebly.com and asked what options I could see there; I said I could see that this was a scam call and he insisted it wasn't and said I shouldn't tell lies as everything was being recorded. I politely asked his name as I wanted to call Sky to verify but he kept aggressively repeating I should not lie and was wasting his time (I pointed out, still politely, that he had called me and perhaps it was MY time we were wasting) then swore at me and hung up.

He called from a London number 0207 eight hundred four thousand and thirteen.

@worldleaderNo ISP will ever call you out of the blue unless you have already called them. So you got it right in what type of call it was.

You can stop these types of calls getting through if you put on talk shield and that way you can check who is calling before taking the call.

If someone has helped give them Like.

If you have found this solution helpful please tick this as the answer.

Re: Scam call

It looks like they are still at it. I just got a call, but this time the web address that they give starts with Sky105. I was pretty sure it was not Sky, simply because I know that Sky does not rely on the Internet Speed websites. I put their address on the search bar instead on the URL address  (as why would Sky have a website address with numbers after SKY???) and the first thing that came up was SKY Scam...So I also told them I was going to call Sky to check ....

If you dial 17070 and get a "welcome to sky" message then you will be able to set up sky talk shield which should block these calls

Re: Scam call

I received a call from London number 020, telling she's calling from sky and that my sky wifi is slow due to some problems, she is calling to resolve the problem, asked me to go sky.weebly  to download some app which I did, I downloaded the app and run, then came up from my computer that wifi is slow due to sky faults and am entitled to £457, also sky engineer will come over to my house and restore new broadband, after that my computer screen went blank  later locked key came up I couldn't do anything thing on my computer, this where I started feeling uncomfortable.

She got all my details, wandering how these scammer can get hold of someone details just like. She got my date of birth, my address, post code and my monthly sky bills, amount am paying next. Now my computer is locked I can't do anything on it.  This is so bad.

Almost certainly not a call from London.

You need to very rapidly take every possible step to secure your assets based on what someone with complete access to that computer may have been able to do: I'd suggest starting with any form of online banking.  Basically anything you could do while sitting at that screen, they can do.  You also need to make sure that it's completely switched off so that they aren't still gaining access that way, and it would be advisable to report the incident as a crime.

Weebly is a free website hosting platform: no company of the scale of Sky would be using it, and that's absolutely the hallmark of scammers, as is the rest of the nonsense they spouted.  It's just about possible (but very unlikely) that they may have someone associated with their operation visit your address as a bogus 'engineer': if so, refuse admittance and dial 999.

If they had that before you gave them remote access, then that's worrying.  If it was afterwards then they probably just lifted it from your computer.

That's clearly a bogus website on free web hosting, and a pretty poor attempt even by the usual standards.
