Replacing Sky Fibre500 hub with ASUS GT6 Router
Hi,
I've purchased an ASUS GT6 gaming router and would like to replace my SKY router (White, Full Fibre 500, newly installed in Jan-25).
I'm not expert at routers, but have tried installing. There is a BT Openrach 'modem?' on the wall. The LAN cable from the BT device is plugged in to the WAN on the SKY router. I unplugged the cable gpoing into teh WAN on teh SKY router and plugged it in to the WAN port on the ASUS GT6 router. This does not work - the ASUS router app suggests that the ASUS router cannot connect.
Can anyone advise me on what I need to do to get this working?
Thanks 🙂

Re: Replacing Sky Fibre500 hub with ASUS GT6 Router
Hi @jondayfr you can use your new router with your Sky full fibre connection but it needs confguring before it will connect. Sky usexa system called DHCPv4 Option 61 with a user and password string in the form anything@skydsl|anything which Asus routers can offer. This thred walks someone through setting up,an Asus routers. If use the forum sesrch you will find more.
Assume you are aware you will lose the voice line if the Sky hub is not directly connected to the ONT?

Re: Replacing Sky Fibre500 hub with ASUS GT6 Router
Hi Chrisee,
Thanks.
so I need to access the SKY router settings on a web browser, then find a setting called client identifier (option 61 and enter anything@skydsl|anything?
Apologies if it's a really simple question, but I've not done this before.
Re: ONT - I have no need for the voice line 👍🏼
Thanks

Re: Replacing Sky Fibre500 hub with ASUS GT6 Router
@jondayfr no need to do anything with the Sky hub if you dont need the voice line. Unplug and keep it safe as Sky will wont it back if you change isps and it will need to be connected if there is a line fault to getvsupport from Sky.
.The setting is for the Asus router and the settings are configured there the string as typed should work but you can replace the "anything" with any string you desire it doesn't matter. As I posted plenty of Asus walk throughs on the forum if you search some with screen shots.

Re: Replacing Sky Fibre500 hub with ASUS GT6 Router
Thanks for confirming Chris.
I'm just unsure how to actually access the ASUS router settings if I don't understand how connect it to the internet 🛜 in the first place. The threads that I have researched assume that I can just connect and access.
Apologies for the basic questions... appreciate your help!
