Red Light ONT, No internet or Phone

For the second time this week we have a red broadband light on our ONT. We switched over on Thursday and had that for 8

hours, before it returned. Same issue again today, and the router and ONT have both been powered off and back on multiple times. We also have no landline as a result which is a concern considering we have MECS for my elderly father in the house. This means he cannot call for help if we are not around. I've also checked the fibre optic connections at the inside wall, exterior wall and in the street with all seemingly fine.

 

Any suggestions on how to resolve would be appreciated as the sky app believes it's connected fine yet it's definitely not. I work in a senior IT role at a large organisation so it's not just the usual restart your router etc required. Cheers!

I'd note that it's not supposed to be possible to switch to full fibre if there's such equipment in place which doesn't have both battery backup and the capacity to failover to a cellular connection: you should have been asked about this when placing the order.

Hi Tommy, it may well have a cellular backup, but this is not something they've been told about if it does. However, we've had a full fibre connection with Vodafone until this week which other than the odd router reset has been trouble-free. I've never had any ONT related issues previously and do worry the fibre optic cable is broken just enough to intermittently cause issues as the Sky one is much larger and the fibre has been curved at a far more acute angle to fit it.

@AJF355 Why where you not RED flagged during the approach for the upgrade, with zero ability and Fibre down you need urgently to get something else in place, hope that you are in a good mobile 4G area at least!

 

Your seeing already just how stable the Fibre service is and you are only, treat the Alarm as a LOS description! Adtran.jpegNokia.jpegon day one!
