Afternoon,
Signed up for a new Fibre package with Sky earlier in the week (Going from an old Fibre package to Ultrafast) and today a new Sky Broadband Hub has arrived at the door (the latest, stand upright, version).
I've had a Sky Q hub for a number of years and have configured it for my internal networking needs. I also have a lot of Smart Home devices/general devices connected to it around the house over WiFi.
My question is: Whats the difference/benefits of using the new Sky Broadband Hub over the existing Sky Q Hub? Do I actually need to/is it worth changing it out?
I've checked on the Q Hub and it has connecetd at my new speed and throughput (wirelessly, standing next to it anyway) is reflective of that. So it seems the Q Hub can support the faster sync speed.
Just looking to know if theres any benefit to installing the new hub and going through the ballache of reconnecting all the devices or if I can just keep the Q Hub running.
Or alternatively, if there is a benefit in using it, does anyone know if it'll let me rename the WiFi to the old network name and update the password to the old one as well, so the devices just connect to it like it was the old router when I turn it on, save updating dozens of devices?
Cheers in advance

With ultrafast fttp the ethernet from the fibre plugs into lan port 4 (wan) which the sky q hub doesn't have. Also the broadband is now also your phone socket which the q hub doesn't have

Thanks cookiemonsteruk.
I dont have FTTP and I dont have a home phone, so guess if thats the only two things then theres no real benefit in going through the setup hassle, unless I can change the WiFi name and password to match existing Q hub.

You said you were moving to ultrafast which can be delivered via a g.fast modem sr204 or the fttp hub sr203.
Can you clarify what speed you were told you would get?

As @cookiemonsteruk indicates, Ultrafast of any variety requires either the Sky Broadband Hub or your own compatible hardware. A Q Hub cannot work for Ultrafast because (as far as I'm aware) it contains neither a G.fast-capable modem or a WAN-capable ethernet socket to connect to an ONT.

@TimmyBGood & @cookiemonsteruk
Folks, my apologies, it appears I have had a nightmare with the naming. 😞
It isn't "Ultrafast", it's "Superfast" I have moved onto, from my old legacy Fibre Product.
Router (Existing Sky Q hub) is now syncing at 67327 Kbps down and 18649 Kbps up, from previous 40000 and 9999.
Apologies for confusing the question with the wrong name.
So its Superfast Fibre (standard FTTC) and they've sent me a new Sky Broadband Hub where I have a Sky Q hub.

Do you know if your getting internet calls or did you subscribe to broadband boost
Could you enter your full postal below and post the table after removing your address from the image. Superfast can be delivered by fttp if its available

Didn't sign up for Boost no, actually told the guy on the phone that I specifically didn't want it to save the £5 and he did that to match the online deal (though he did say he had to put through Boost then immediately cancel).
Internet calls: I told him we dont use a landline, haven't for years, so didn't need or want a calls package. He said it wasn't an option not to have it, but it was free and we'd just be charged for whatever we used, which will be nothing (we have no telephone).
Sure, here's the table and blurb at the bottom.

In those circumstances you can technically use either the Q Hub or the Sky Broadband Hub. The administrative complication will be that having despatched a Broadband Hub to your address the Sky logistics platform will expect a Q Hub to be returned, and will almost certainly both hassle you with increasingly annoying automated messages and ultimately charge you the non-return fee in its absence.
Unfortunately, sending back the Broadband Hub will just really confuse thing...

Thanks Timmy. The guy on the phone never said anythng about returning the Q kit, so I'll look out for those annoying chases coming through. 🙂 No contact about it as yet. Its probably 6 years old at least, so maybe they dont want it back, haha.
I might try firing up the new hub and seeing if it will let me change the WiFi config, or if its all hard coded in. I dont mind using it if needs be, I jus tcant be *rsed changing the config all round the house if I dont need to!

You can certainly change SSID and password to match the existing one.

I believe if the sky q hub was issued to you before 04/03/2020 its yours to keep.

Ah, brilliant, cheers Timmy.
That should solve all my problems then, hopefully, sans some internal network config that I'm sure will be possible on the new one anyway. Thatsprobably the way to go.
Thanks you and @cookiemonsteruk for your answers, much appreciated.

Sorry to hijack, but I have almost identical situation. Have Sky Q with Q hub, upgraded broadband to superfast and got sent the new broadband hub.
Sounds like the new hub is better, but are there any downsides to swapping out the Q hub? Will the wi-fi mesh provided by the Q mini boxes still work (I think I had read before that only the Q hub supports this)?
Thanks!
