Poor wifi and internet connection

This is my mother's account. She is 92 and just has the basic broadband package. She only uses the Internet for her ipad use (browsing and email. No streaming), a ring alarm with doorbell and a few sensors and rarely, downloading catch up tv programs on her old sky HD box.

 

Because if her age and issues with memory, we do not want a fancy upgrade, jus want the basics to work.

 

When I visit, we Skype with family about twice a week. At least one of these requires rebooting the router as it appears my device gets poor connectivity and often, my mums pad does too. I accept some requirement for rebooting but every week seems excessive. When it happens, I can generally access the router page but with no Internet. Would a simple replacement of her Sr102 router be possible and likely solve the issue? As stated, faster speed upgrades are not required fir her use. Just the basic working.

@JeanWingfield  That is an older router which Sky should replace. If you can call on behalf for your mother to sort it out if you have already set it up so that you can talk on her behalf.

What package exactly is the 'Basic broadband' package she is on?

 

Having a ring door bell & using Skype video requires a semi-decent amount of upload speed & on Sky's basic ADSL broadband package that would only give you a maximum of 1.2mbps which is likely not enough to handle a video call on Skype, A ring doorbell livestream or a Ring doorbell event upload to their servers while any other device is even connected to the hub.

Sky broadband superfast with sky talk anytime extra.

 

Tv package strangely not defined on her account page but think it just is sky without any addons

Okay Superfast should be good enough. What hub does she have at the moment? https://www.sky.com/help/articles/set-up-hub-which-sky-hub-do-you-have

 

What kind of speeds are you seeing when running a test?
