Re: PlayStation
Hello there ps5 user here, now let's start with a few basics. So ps5s have bad WiFi in general they just aren't great for picking up a signal. Have your son ran some speed tests? this can be done from the network settings on the console. What I found when working in broadband is people get internet confused with WiFi. So they'll say their WiFi is bad, which usually is correct however they fix that by upping their internet speed. So for example let's say you have a 50mbps connection and your signal is poor so only 20% of the time the signal is getting to your device then you essentially have 10 Mbps. Now you go to sky or whoever and say I want faster so you upgrade to let's say 150 Mbps but still only getting 20% of the signal so you are now getting 30mbps. Now if you had sorted out your WiFi issues to get close to 100% you would have got the full 50 and probably wouldn't have needed to upgrade. So one good and fairly cheap way of getting a good connection to the ps5 is powerline adaptors they are around £30 in Argos or Amazon. They essentially use your homes cabling to pass the internet to the device instead of WiFi. This is going to provide you with a far better connection to a console. Cheaper adaptors may not be super fast but for stability they are perfect. Online games don't need speed they need stability. You could also look at adding more WiFi access points around the home or an easier option would be a WiFi mesh network. These will definitely help but a best case scenario for gaming as definitely via a cable. If you can run an ethernet between the console and the router that would be perfect but if not powerline adaptors are the next best thing. A few of my friends have had similar issues and these adaptors are a good send especially if you don't want cables here, there and everywhere. If you want any advice on ones to try let me know but definitely start off with a speed test and let us know what sort of speeds the console is getting. If you can Google ps5 secret browser then you can Google a proper speed test to get a bit more information. I don't know what it is with PlayStation's but they suck at WiFi. The PS3,4 and 5 all are really bad.

Re: PlayStation
Games are not great with Wi-Fi. My 2 sons play online games on their PC and would only trust a powerline over Wi-Fi.
You will never get 100% of the bandwidth on powerline but its stable. My internet connection is 500Mbs but upstairs bedroom powerline is about 120Mbs...but they can play online.
It's based on quality of your house electrial wiring and very important never to plug them to a extention lead.
I have a pair of these. Cost me £23 refurbished with warrany on ebay. The same seller on Amazon for £24.
If you have money to throw away, then brand new they cost £45 😁
