Ping Spikes
I have been having an issues with ping spikes since set up a couple of months ago, on their full fibre package. Download/Upload speeds are totally fine, connectivity throughout the house is as expected, but I noticed when playing online recently that I have massive ping spikes (up to 1000ms) every few seconds. Its so quick it doesnt effect most activities or games, but one particular game (Total War) is basically unplayable online due to (I assume) using peer to peer rather than servers. Various test tools show these huge spikes on their graphs, topping out at around 1000ms, but I otherwise have between 12-20ms outisde of those spikes.
In diagnosing the problem I have done the following:
- Replaced my wifi card - better speeds but same ping spikes
- Used powerline adaptors - what I used before the wifi card when I first noticed the spikes
- Performed ping tests on a laptop whilst sat beside the router - same ping spikes
- Performed ping tests on that same laptop whilst plugged into the router directly via ethernet - same ping spikes
I moved to my current residence recently and my desktop has never suffered from these ping spikes prior to this.
With that said, I am thinking the issue has to be either the router, the line into my house, or the local lines right? Just want to make sure I havent missed anything obvious before I get onto Sky Support.
