No service

I live in the East Riding and the only provider I can get is kcom. I'm currently paying £55 a month, I , and many others would love to have different options. How in this day and age can kcom have such a monopoly on this whole area....

Sky Q, 3 mini boxes, booster and full fibre gigafast. Good WiFi coverage throughout a 4-bedroom house!

Technically because Hull City Council bought the relevant infrastructure from the wreckage of the National Telephone Company in 1914 ; )

Actually that's the previous consultation, which Ofcom themselves admit failed to achieve meaningful competition.

The current one closes on Thursday.

Re: No service

Thanks for the reply.

i and many others in the East Riding would love to have a choice. It seems unfair and unlikely in this day and age that things are going to change. I think that if a company came into the area there would be a massive exodus from kcom as the prices are just ridiculous

Re: No service

It's the choice of providers in the area that's frustrating, we literally only have kcom. I have to have boosters all around the house so I'm sorted on that front

17:00 on Thursday 26th February 2026 is the end point for submissions to Ofcom on the revised proposal for tackling lack of competition to KCOM, which I linked to above.

The problem is that it's still a real gamble for any incoming provider to pay out multiple millions to get infrastructure in place to serve an inherently limited overall market.
