No internet connection

My internet dropped out yesterday and came back on after I unplugged the router and plugged back in. Happened again today but unplugging didn't work. Phoned Sky who talked me through processes. Rest router via button at the back, took a good while but eventually came back on after the internet flashed on and off for a good while. Tonight it went off again but now there's no internet light at all. Resetting and unplugging no longer working. No issues in the area. I suspect it's the hub/router which is the problem but sky want an open reach to attend. Could I be right that it simply needs a new router?
