New vs Existing customer

I am an existing Sky Broadband customer and my contract is nearing its end. I have been prompted to fix into a new deal, however I am appalled at how much more expensive it is for an existing customer than a new customer. Example: I have looked at upgrading to the Full Fibre 2.5 Gigafast+ plan, and I have been quoted £73/mth for this, however going through the website as a new customer I can get the same plan for just £35/mth...

I have called Sky who apologise and say this is just how it is, and that new customers have welcome deals like the above. We only require broadband, and have no interest in landline, TV or any other optional extra etc.

Would it be possible for me to cancel theSky broadband contract in my name, and for my wife (who has no Sky products in her name) to sign up as a new customer and get the benefit of being a new Sky customer? i.e. the Full Fibre 2.5 Gigafast+ plan at the lower rate as quoted above. We live at the same address and the bill would be paid from the same bank account, however as far as I am concerned she should be treated as a new Sky customer shouldn't she?

Many thanks,

Ewan

No. Sky will be well practiced is spotting such (somewhat fraudulent) attempts.

New customers are offered good discounts as an incentive to join. Most companies do this now. You probably took advantage of such a new customer deal when you first joined Sky.

If you can't negotiate an acceptable price for renewing then perhaps consider a move to an alternative provider, but when that deal nears its end you'll be in the same position with them, and will be able to rejoin Sky if you wish and take up any new customer deals available at that time.

Comcast do appear to prioritise getting new customers over retaining long standing ones. As other providers do this too it seems to be a common theme.
