@Sineadmcc1234 if this is a Sky hub they may have sent out the wrong cable in the pack. If you have a service delivered over a copper phone line you need to source a DSL cable with rj11 connecters which you can buy at most any hardware store or even larger supermarkets. The ethernet cable can only be used with full fibre where the Openreach connection has lights on it.
