Moving v upselling
Simple house move to my late Mum's house, which had Sky. I currently pay £43/m for broadband plus TV. I'm told that my standard package is not available at the new address and that i can only have Ultrafast broadband at £68/m. I'm contracted for 24 months. I pay a fixed fee every month and SKY agrees to provide the service for 24 months. If they upgrade the system - fine, but I'm not paying 50% more for the same product. My needs haven't changed. I don't need a Ferrari instead of my Fiesta. I'm happy with Semi-skimmed, I don't want Full-fat Jersey milk for my tea. SKY should uphold their end of the contract. Spoke to 'retentions' - very polite, but no help. Said 'Moving dept' would call. Nothing. Shame. Its BT or ee for me if SKY don't want me.

Perhaps note that Sky is not 'upgrading' in isolation: the national telecoms network is transitioning from 19th century copper pairs to 21st century optical fibre, and as part of that process ISPs simply cannot order wholesale service over metallic circuits at addresses where FTTP is in reach.
You can choose which speed band you want to be delivered over the fibre though: there's no requirement to accept an offer of an unnecessary 'Ultrafast' product.
BT Halo 3+ Ultrafast FTTP (500Mbs), BT Smart Hub 2
