Leaving Sky

So I found a better deal with Virgin for M500 full fibre at £20.99 yesterday. 

I then received a text and email from Sky saying your thinking about leaving and offering me a better deal than what I have now which is full fibre 150 at £33.00. Sky's better deal...£25.00 but still on full fibre 150.

The Sky email said call and discuss your options which I've just did. The Sky staff member was no help whatsoever. After explaining the offer from Virgin, she offered me £31.00, then £27.50 after 15 mins of checking and confirming she saw the email sent to me.

What? So despite seeing Sky's email offering a new deal at £25.00, she offered me £27.50 as the best deal?

Very poor service and gonna cancel! She even had the gall to say I'd be receiving a survey about our call and asking for positive feedback!...Yeah ...Like that's gonna happen!

Im not sure what help you need from other Sky customers as the soloution is to go with Virgin and ignore anything further you get from Sky.

I don't need help here, just informing on my poor experience of Sky's customer service and lack of understanding their own emails. Why send out an offer that this customer service agent can't even get right and proceed to discuss options that are more expensive.

After over 25yrs it's bye bye sky.

@davidandrew Be sure to just use the VM OTS service, that will keep the lights on should there be any issues getting the VM Fibre installed for you, think carefully were you need the VM Router to be in the home so installation goes as expected, Fibre Cables. plugs and extensions become difficult, and you should check out if the VM modem is all working as expected now in the VM Forum!

Boy uses installed 2 1/2 years ago happy with it all but i had to run the Fibre in as the VM Engineer refused to do through the loft space, but was happy enough for me to pull in, and he did the Final clean and connect all the Fibre cable ends as needed!

Virgin Media appear to be offering very low prices currently. They're also guarenteeing no price increase in April 2026 and a £4 increase in April 2027. Sky are offering lower prices for new customers, but not at the same level as VM.

Jim,Yeah, will use the OTS. Am I right in thinking that Virgin can't use the existing line run from the telegraph pole by Sky to my house which then terminates to an Openreach box in my living room before going to router...and that Virgin will have to run their own line and also put their own box in the living room.

If this is the case, can they just feed the fibre through the existing hole in the wall made when I got Sky put in rather than another drill hole?

@davidandrew New line, new everything, ideally VM are already up the pole next to the OR CBT, they are very inflexibale installation team wise, and by the book for the cable run to there CSP equivallent connection, then the VM Engineer arrives and from the CSP does the final Fibre run into the property and connect's up to the new VM Fibre Router, Fibre is ALL the way direct into it connection wise, think it's called the 5x if i remember correctly! Cable may not fit through an existing hole, all the VM cables are pre-made with connection/plugs on them same out on the CSP similar to the OR one but NO Fusion splicing going on Picture once cleared VM is the RHS box with the two (2) homes connected on it!

RHS is a VM Fibre connection box!

Thanks for explaining. I'll check they have CBT on the pole tomorrow when it's light as its outside my house. They should have as their p/code checker says I can get all their FTTP deals.

It does sound from what you say that it'll be new points on outside and inside walls but if they do neat and tidy job I'll be ok with that considering the saving I'll make.

@davidandrew Virtually the same as a OR Install that you have, box is Brown outside for VM, and all the connections are Fibre Plug/socket arrangement all over inside and outside, Just depends how it all pans out, the VM Engineer that did the son's had not done many off them, was missing the Internal Box fixing for the Fibre so did a compromise cable and from the Loft space right into the back off the VM Router but working fine and son was OK with it all, then again not much choice as he had his old dad do it all for him so it's a suck it up!🤣
