Lagging

Recently changed from virgin to sky. Since my old broadband finished and now all my devices are connected to sky, I've started experiencing lagging whilst gaming and had a couple of issues with sky stream which I never got when there wasn't many devices connected. Can someone help with what's best to do before looking at buying boosters or ringing sky. Many thanks

@James170289 slightly surprised you are finding Sky wifi less good than Virgin as previously it was the other way round. Sky hubs have reasonable but not ourtstanding wifi and you can definitely buy better solutions but before doing thst try to optimise the hub's signal by making sure it is reasonably high so above rasiators etc and definitely nit hidden behind other kit.

With any device that streams video like Sky Stream you need both sufficent bandwidth and a low level of jitter (regularity) from the signal. It is possible you are getting interference from a neighnouring wifi network simply rebooting the Sky hub by disconnecting the power for a few seconds can sort that as the hub will find the best channel when restarting.

Assuming those dont work then you can buy third party kit. Personally I am not a fan of adding third party boosters as they can cause more issues than they serve. If you pay Sky a monthly charge for either their Brosdband Boost bundle or the new Wifi Max pack they will lend you boosters designed to.work with the hubs. These get expensive over time so it can be economical to buy a third party whole home system which you connect to the Sky hub by Ethernet, turn iff the Sky wifi and use your own system ooerating as Access Points. Alternatively you can go the whole way get rid of the Sky hub and buy a third party router but this requires choosing a unit compatable with the service you buy from Sky as not all routers will work.

Unlike Virgin hubs Sky hubs do not have a modem mode and Sky's IP voice line requires a Sky hub to work.
