Good morning, installation/activitation supposed to take place Monday 3rd. Got email stating it will be delayed. Supposedly Sky Hub is on its way, tracked mail. Virgin Media contract terminating 6th November
No reason or alternative date provided. Not a great start tbh
Just in general terms, how long are these things usually delayed for in (Irish) people's experience? Or is that a "how long is a piece of string" type question?
Thanks

@RobertMoore Not sure if the OTS one touch switching is applied or works in the ROI, is this something that you would know, the principal is you contact sky, they take care off everything that means informing all the parties involved, so VM are to keep the lights on and still provide you with broadband up until sky say's OK we have the customer now no matter what the delay involved is.
Getting whatever needs to be done if anything external for sky to takeover is a lottery in effect, delay's happen and sky ROI is the question to ask regarding what is going on, think though there is NO support over the weekend period as they are Mon/Fri operation!
If you did/had to call VM as part off doing the change then they will disconnect on the date you said!
Searching OTS say's UK area only as far as i can see!
See if the link below is off any use! it is from the ROI web!

Thanks for that JimM1.
I phoned Sky and given that crews don't work week-end.
I have to call back Monday.
I have issued 30 days written notice to VM in accordance with their t&C and have received acknowledgement of termination 6 Nov.
Really don't want to be paying VM for use if service extends beyond 6 Nov by necessity. However, I do recognize that if Sky cannot manage Monday 3rd, they're unlikely to get around to it by the 6th.

Have been reading horror stories about people waiting 5 weeks to 8 months for installation on discussion forum here.
Have 2 kids at college who need broadband. Cannot be without so will have to look at alternatives if delay is ongoing.
Does anyone have experience of temporary/mobile BB (e.g WiFiCandy)?
Thanks

You could try as a tempary soloution a Mobile Boardband connection on a monthly rolling contract while you wait for them to sort the fibre out, or Starlink, as this is also a monthly rolling, expensive, contract. But you can get either of those otions working in a couple of hours.
Starlink offer a zero cost installation, free kit, as long as you stay connected, or buy the kit and you will always have a backup.
I remember the Internet starting!
Sky Full Fibre & Virgin Media XGS-PON, with automatic failover using DrayTek multi WAN router.
Sky Q, which will be sadly missed when they decide to kill it off!
