Inconsistent wifi speee

Hey everyone, We recently moved into a 3 storey, 3 bedroom house which is a fairly new build (4 years) and already had an open reach ONT installed in the centre of the property in a larder room (with thin walls). We have had sky full fibre 150 for 3 weeks now and I can't make sense of the WiFi speeds. (4.2 hub) Whether I'm on the ground floor or the top floor I will get a full 150mbps, but then other times it can drop massively to 20-60mbps.. even if I'm right next to the sky hub. This can happen with lots of devices streaming videos and gaming, and when it's just my phone only. It can happen at any time of the day or night. I'd say its more common the speeds are on the lower end. We have also experienced latency spikes when gaming and I noticed that if you do a speed test, and you run an upload test the ping goes through the roof. I've also been kicked out of games like fall guys for unstable connection. I tried moving the sky hub higher outside of the larder room out in the open and to be fair.. the signal was even worse. Does anyone know what could be causing this ? The connection between the ONT to the hub is a solid 152mbps. It's frustrating as my previous house only had sky broadband with 70mpbs but it would be a stable 70mbps all the time. I don't want to pay for sky max hub, but thinking of cancelling the contract before the cooling off period ends and trying a different provider, or investing in my own router. I soke with sky tech support twice and also had a replacement 4.2 hub sent but no changes. I did notice that when I first connected the replacement it was a solid 150 for an hour.. it then rebooted and it was back to its normal inconsistent self.

@Kai159 Are you completely wireless for all devices connected to the hub, the 150Mb/s is for everything that is sharing at that time, so a couple of 4k TV watching could be gobbling up 80 to a 100K,  but you do say single testing.

If you web to the hub and look at the stats's while running you can watch how busy the network is. Tip link above explains how to get to the stat's.

Watching it wired is best but if you are only wireless then that is all you can do.

Re: Inconsistent wifi speee

Thank you for the info. I'll give that a try. Yes we are completely wireless but I can hook up my laptop with an ethernet. If we were on 500mbps would that solve any bandwith issues ?

@Kai159 Once you get the better idea what is going on, wan stat's is all the devices then you have the other 3, Higher bandwidth would help, but speed is as good as the slowest, bit of a see-saw effect, number off devices, and what is going on is more important, stability is the must over speed always...
