Am I wrong to expect my phone to be connected when I had broadband connected.That [Removed] engineer has left me with no landline.

If it was previously in a wall socket (master or extension) then that's not going to work any more.
This is an inevitable side-effect of voice telephone service transitioning from analogue to digital before PSTN is switched off nationally in about a year from now.
As @caesarome indicates, one handset or a DECT multi-handset base station should be plugged into the phone socket on the rear of the Sky Hub.

Are you able to connect it yourself as it should plug into the back of your broadband hub.
