Ethernet direct connect via the router. On my old hub I only paid for the 25Gb pack, on the new contract It has been opened up. The connection is Fibre to wall box outside, then copper to the socket. so no infrastructure change, I just have more channels open to me now.

OK, so you've moved from a legacy speed and volume restricted FTTC product to a full 80/20 service?
That's understandable: Sky hasn't offered a volume restricted product for a while now and they have mostly disappeared from the marketplace.

The broadband hub is only a marginal signal improvement and thus reliably - when it's on a FTTP, works better. However if you have, like the majority in the UK, old houses being insulated to the hilt, then this will still not improve anything. Only the speed going to your hub and that's even questionable with FTTC and exchange distances along with interference from copper line neighbours.
The sky Q hub is better when you're in a room you're working from home or you have Ethernet connected devices.
It varies to which is better and for what purpose.
HOWEVER, since Sky make it so hard to enable bridging mode entirely or the use of the Sky username and password on a device to use, reliably, the MER protocol, then even third party routers can mess up your line speed and noise margin, thereby creating stability issues.
I would not dare advocate virgin media. But their router is far superior in terms of customisation and function to name an example in which can perform to possible third party router needs.

It's not MER (despite it showing that in the stats page!) at all, it is IPoE in the UK for both FTTC & FTTP.
You'll note from the post 19 in the link that at least one Sky employee is wanting the 'MER' changed 👍🏻

orry, I should have said that I had been out of contract for about 6 years!

Yes, that would do it: all the broadband products of that era have been superseded by 'unlimited' versions.

Hence the use of the RV340 (sorry I mis-typed RM in earlier responses,,, call it a senior moment, I am over 60 after all!).
I use it in full load balancing mode between my HUB4 with Gig1 and Sky Superfast (should have gone Ultrafast, but what the hey I am only paying £30 a month!) with a 1:1 priority.
I am now averaging on a multi point speedtest of 1,206Mb with the advantage that should either ISP drop (Virgin being more prone to it sadly) I still have internet connectivity, and the added odvantage of my 5g mobile router as fallback hanging off the side. The Rv is not supposed to support 5g but I tried it and it works!

I would like to do this as I want to add Tplink - wifi 6 mesh system as the only wifi in the house. can you explain in more detail how you did this.
Many thanks.

Try this, if it helps

Find out more@John+B1 although a Double Nat system should work there is an alternative which is simply turn off the wifi on your Sky Hub and connecting your TP-Link system configured to operate in Access Point mode as explained here https://www.tp-link.com/uk/support/faq/1842/. My own system works in this way.
One more tip is while setting up your new Deco system change the SSID and password to match your Sky hub so once you make the switch your devices will connect automatically saving a lot of reprogramming..

How do you turn the wifi off on the sky hub?

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@John+B1 assuming you have any Sky hub except the Wifi Max hub type192.168.0.1 into a broswer when the hub's interface loads then click on wifi and you will be required to log in the user is admin and the password is either sky or the wifi password on the label.
Simply then untick the Enable Wifi box on both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz tab and click to apply the settings. Using ios devices can make this very difficult so use something else if you havecto use an iPhone or similar use Chrome rather than Safari.
