I am about to get sky tv and broadband installed. Is it necessary to dig up the driveway?

Is it necessary to have any digging up of the driveway done to have sky installed. We currently have Virgin for tv and broadband.

Sky satellite television uses a dish for reception, so no digging is required for that.  However if your area is being provisioned by Openreach for internet over FTTP, the default connection for a new broadband subscription would require an optical cable to be routed to the property (which is what the link @cookiemonsteruk provided may indicate).

Per @TimmyBGood sorry i wasn't specific enough. The link will indicate exactly how the cable will be bought to the property and any issues involved if you are getting fttp

Re: I am about to get sky tv and broadband installed. Is it necessary to dig up the driveway?

Hi there,

I had an engineer out yesterday for 3 hours and the only way I could get Ultrafast installed was if they dug up my tarmac on the driveway - a meter square in front of the doorstep so I declined as it would then be patched up right in front of the door.

It's a shame there's no other way of installing it.

Where cabling is in ducting it does have to be broken out somewhere adjacent to the property in order to reach an external CSP box.

There was once a trial of bringing optical cable into properties via sewage pipes and toilet bowls: strangely enough no-one really fancied that....
