How to Upgrade Old Broadband Router to get Gigabit ethernet
How do you get a new router as my current one does not support Gigabit ethernet and we cannot get more that 100Mbs through ethernet

If you upgrade to a faster connection through Sky they'll automatically send you a suitable router.
If you're saying you already are on a faster service, what speed are you on and how are you testing?

Re: How to Upgrade Old Broadband Router to get Gigabit ethernet
@Patrick98 all current Sky hubs support gigabit ethernet so unless yours is over 10 years okd that is not likely to be an issue. However if you use a cable which is damaged with a break in one core or connect to a device with a 100Mb/s port the hubs will fall back to 100Mb/s

Re: How to Upgrade Old Broadband Router to get Gigabit ethernet
I have Connected a brand new Cat6 cable from laptop to router and still only get max 95Mbs, I then tested this cable on another network and got 600Mbs+
The router is:SR203 Firmware 7.04.0206.R
The Ethernet is set to Gigabit Ethernet

What a different network reports is immaterial. What actual speed do you pay for and what does the MySky app or the online access to your account say that the router is receiving?

Re: How to Upgrade Old Broadband Router to get Gigabit ethernet
@Patrick98 ok so the cable is OK but w hat is the speed the port is set to for the Sky connection? The SR203 definitely supports Gigabit speeds on all 4 rear ports. For all 4 to only run at 100Mb/s would be an extremly unlikely fault.

Re: How to Upgrade Old Broadband Router to get Gigabit ethernet
Have you checked the ethernet settings on the laptop/pc
to check what speed your card is currently set to :-
Go to the icon of the taskbar
Locate the icon Internet
Press on network and internet settings
Click on Ethernet
Click change adapter options
Double click on Ethernet. There, you get the speed, it can be 100 mbps or 1Gbps. If it is the second, we do not have to do anything, but if it is the first we have to configure the card
Then If you have a windows pc you can change the card settings as below
In the window where the speed was indicated, you have to click on properties
Check that the option Microsoft network clients is marked, if not, do it
Click on set up
We go to Advanced Options
Search Speed & Duplex
Change the value to 1.0 Gbps Full Duplex
Accept
Sky Stream , Sky Superfast, SR203 router, Tp link td w9970 + Asus RT AX58U (backup), Xbox Series X, google home mini, LG 55 inch uhd tv, with Dolbyvision, samsung a5 2017 and samsung s21
If I get it right mark as answered
If I get it wrong humour me
If I say something you like give a thumbs up

Re: How to Upgrade Old Broadband Router to get Gigabit ethernet
Checking the cable on another network to confirm it is not the cause does not seem immaterial, but perhaps more details.
I pay for 1Gbs, Sky confirm the line is getting that and standing in the room next to router I get 750Mbs+ on my mobile.
The house is large and old and the only place the line could come in is top floor and I need mesh to then spread signal through the house, unfortunately mesh system is networked in so only gets 100mbs to share through house. I also paid to put in network points when house was rewired to annoyed cannot get speed through them.
I know it is highly unlikely that the router would fall in a way that all ports only give 100Mbs but Occam's razor comes into play. Also a quick search of the internet backs this up as I am not the only one have this issue. Could be a batch problem?

Re: How to Upgrade Old Broadband Router to get Gigabit ethernet
@PR1979 if you have a ethernet system installed if it uses a powered switch if so check that supports Gigabit speeds. If it uses unpowered splitter that is the source of your issue the whole Ethernet chain must support Gigabit speeds.
Asky Sky ro switch the unit but I would expect the issue to be still there. Sorry but Ethernet issues are almost always down to an issue with the distribution system hub's either work or they don't. I am on this forum very frequently and am not aware of any issues with theSR203 having a dodgy batch.

Re: How to Upgrade Old Broadband Router to get Gigabit ethernet
@Chrisee as noted before I have ruled out the switch [ the are all gigabit anyway] by using a direct cable to Sky router from a laptop and still not getting more than 100Mbs.
My original query is how to get them to update the router to one of the newer ones, can't seem to get anyone to discuss this Sky help if you can get them all just get me to do the same checks over and over again.

You (and others) are correct that using another network is not immaterial but that said, you say here that you tested the cable, not the laptop? Is that correct? Is it possible to test another device plugged directly into the Sky routers ports?
Not sure if covered earlier but what does it say at Settings > Network & internet > Ethernet > Link speed?
I've just found this earlier thread (plus others) that suggests the router may be set to Fast rather than Giga.

Customers with a Sky Broadband Hub get a Max Hub if they add the WiFi Max subscription supplement to their broadband account.
The Gigafast+ Hub is only allocated to CityFibre circuits.

Re: How to Upgrade Old Broadband Router to get Gigabit ethernet
Hi check in your router settings. Admin area. Go to ethernet and see if type is set to gigabit as another one limits it to 100.
