Gigabit WiFi loading speed
Hello,
We have recently opened a package with Sky for the Sky Stream and Gigafast broadband, which advertises as 900 MBPS.
However, we ran an internet speed test via Google, due to noticing that certain apps (e.g. emails, social media), were taking a long time to load on our mobile phones. And the internet speed on Google said we were running at approximately 290 MBPS. I know this must mean most apps load well, but why are we struggling with emails / social media?
We were under the impression, that having a speedier broadband would mean that using these type of apps etc would mean that we didn't have such a long "loading" period.
Is there anything we can do to help speed our WIFI connection up and to at least try and reach a faster speed? As we are quite unhappy with the current speed considering we pay extra for the better broadband option.

What device are you testing the speed on?
Its best using an etherneted device using fast.com. using wifi especially on the 2.4ghz wifi can be erratic whatever the isp

Re: Gigabit WiFi loading speed
@LauraAaron when you run a sped test on a device tge result is the slowest part of the transfer which on a phone connected by WiFi will be the WiFi speed in your home. The only reliable way to test speeds to the hub is by using a direct gigabit ethernet cable from the hub which will give spedds around 900Mb/s.
290Mb/s is actually more than most mobile apps can use let alone need. However speed of apps loading has little to do with the bandwidth it is influenced by the server response time, the memory available on your phone, the response time of the DNS system and so on.
