Getting External Junction Box in block of flats
I phoned Sky about my broadband contract yesterday as it ends next month. Full Fibre is now available in my area and I have booked Full Fibre 150 to be installed on 26th October. However I am in a block of flats but no external junction box has yet been fitted to the building. Do I need permission for this or will they turn up on the day and fit one or before the day? Not sure where I stand with this? I am a director of the block and spoke to another director who agrees this can be done. But the flats are off the pavement down a driveway so not sure if Openreach can just dig up the drive or what this inviolves.

SOADSL is not restricted at the exchange
For all ADSL and WBC Fibre to the Cabinet (VDSL or G.fast) services, the stable line rate will be determined during the first 10 days of service usage.
For all SOADSL services, the stable line rate will be determined during the first 10 days of service usage.
Actual speeds experienced by end users and quoted by CPs will be lower due to a number of factors within and external to BT's network, Communication Providers' networks and within customer premises.
In order to be eligible for handback, downstream speed should be less than Downstream Handback Threshold values.
If you decide to place an order for a WBC fibre product, an appointment may be required for an engineer to visit the end user's premises to supply the service
ADSL, ADSL2+ and SOADSL availability: If shown at FTTP or SOGEA premises, ADSL, ADSL2+ and SOADSL available to order due to WLR Withdrawal stop sell rules. CPs should order FTTP or SOGEA. Copper products a available by exception.

Re: Getting External Junction Box in block of flats
The relevant line in all that is
"MDU Built to Curtilage External Build required."
Roughly translated: lots of work still to be done...

Re: Getting External Junction Box in block of flats
This thread in a BT forum looks relevant to 'external build':

Re: Getting External Junction Box in block of flats
@TimmyBGood @GD1 Thanks for your replies. So basically it sounds like it's unlikely to go ahead next week. Sounds like the installer will turn up and won't be able to go ahead. Shame as I am out of contract and don't want to sign up for a new 24 month contract of what I have now if full fibre may be available soon. Do you think an openreach engineer may attend before the date and contact me to say it won't be possible? Should I cancel now or let it go ahead and see what happens? I told the sky advisor I am a bit doubtful about this and was told it wouldn't say they could offer it if they couldn't but they would say that.

Re: Getting External Junction Box in block of flats
Once any individual order is placed for a dwelling unit within the property, the process of carrying out the necessary work should commence: it's just that may well be protracted. There's likely to be contact from Openreach to the management company which is entirely separate to communication relating to the order.

Re: Getting External Junction Box in block of flats
Had a text on Friday saying that Openreach have told us they do currently do not have equipment in place to connect your broadband to your phone exchange and looking at best way to get you connected and said a further text update will follow on 11/11/24. I was not suprised to hear this but am now in limbo not knowing what to do. I phoned Sky and the advisor said the order will still be honioured and to just wait but meanwhile paying the new rate for my current broadband which will be £50.50 instead of £22. Then when this is sorted out they will set another installtion date and start my new contract for Fibre 150.
But on My Sky the acativation and installation is still showing as this Thursday afternoon. The sky advisor said dont worry no one will turn up. I dont want to be charged for a missed appointment. I thought I might have to cancel and start again but they say no leave it in place.
Howver I dont want to start paying £50 per month for too long. PErhaps they may credit me back as the delay is not my fault.

Re: Getting External Junction Box in block of flats
Hi, I'm looking at upgrading mine but my results are the same (MDU Built to Curtilage External Build required) I'm just wondering what happened with yours, did they install on time and have no issues? Or did you have to wait a few months? Thanks!

Re: Getting External Junction Box in block of flats
@awesomejimmie it took a few more weeks to get it all sorted. Started the process in October last year as you can see by my post. I actually got my full fibre installation in early December so took about 6 - 8 weeks. Openreach sent three engineers to work out an installation plan which initially they had to abandon and find another route. Once they got it sorted it was quite straightforward and now enjoying 500mb download speeds instead of 55 which I had before!

Re: Getting External Junction Box in block of flats
Thanks for the reply, guess I should try and get it sorted now then as I have 2 months left on my contract and with my letting agent it may be fun trying to get them to approve stuff, but yeah you've eased my mind a bit. Here's to faster internet!
