Full fibre

Hi I've recently moved home and wanted to stay with sky but there's no phone cable connection to the house sky have said they need permission to cut branches off a tree nearby, I've been without broadband for nearly 4 weeks now with no updates, can I get full fibre without a phone cable? I'm thinking otherwise I will have to leave sky as I can't keep waiting with no connection here, help please?

@Ellieb3 yiubare not waiting on Sky but on Openreach whose network Sky like many other isps use so cancelling with Sky wont speed things up in fact it could slow things down. It is only worth switching if the service you want is not using a fixed line like mobile broadband or Starlink.

Where extra work is required there are delays especially if permissions are required as sounds likely in your case.

@Ellieb3  You need a fibre cable to feed the property, that is how Full Fibre is delivered over a land based network.

How do you propose the fibre would get to your home without a physical connection?

Like you I'm a customer here, Sky Employees are clearly identified as such.

@Ellieb3

All terrestrial broadband requires a cable bearer: for 'full fibre' that's optical and for 'part fibre' it's metallic (copper phone pair)

The non-cabled alternatives are cellular data (4G/5G) or Low Earth Orbit satellite data (essentially just Starlink at the moment, with an Amazon version supposedly on the way)

Historically there's also geosynchronous satellite internet access but that requires a really big dish and is significantly expensive.

Without an Openreach circuit or a cabled connection from an altnet ISP, no terrestrial provider could deliver service to the address.

Much as I dislike giving that man more business, Starlink is now a very viable solution at locations where getting FTTP is either technically difficult or financially impossible.
