Hi just picked up on this thread, i had a similar experience. Upgraded to gigafast and got another SR203 off sky when i asked for a new router.

Whilst the speeds (both to the hub and over WIFI) are an improvement on the Superfast i had before, i'm getting about 125mbs around the house over WIFI now.

I would have expected the speed to the hub to be c. 900mbs as its directly over FTTP but i'm seeing in the mid 600's.

I know this is highly theoretical as 150mbps is fine in practice at the moment, im just wondering why the gigafast isnt giving me nearer 900mbps at the hub, and whether the newer SR213 router would be better.

Bit diappointed to be paying for gigafast but not getting those speeds, even direct to the hub.

What sort of speed are others getting direct to the hub in a similar setup? and did a switch to the SR213 improve things?

@Kenny+J The SR203 is a wi-fi 5 hub, and ethernet connected yes you will get the speed expected but on wireless connected, close to the hub then about 600Mb/s is the max and that is at a push, 500Mb.s would be the more expected....

And all assumes that your devices are at least capable off maintaining the required speed's.

Speed test above is on the sky FF500 feed, and connected wireless to the SR203 hub about 20foot away.

Appreciate the WIFI speed is hugely variable based on proximity to the hub and through walls etc, but when i run a Sky service check which checks the speed coming into my hub, its still only showing around 650 rather than closer to 900 as i would have expected from a gigafast service as its FTTP?

Or are my expectations too unrealistic ?

@Kenny+J Would have expected higher give it a couple day's to gather info, also only way to tell is the hub logs to the time it is checked at TR69 log, if at peak time on a busy FF circuit then it may be lower.... think my hub was checked at 8.24pm so was always up and down, can do a picture sample if you need.

The problem with isps routers is that they are extremely cheap. They can slap WiFi 6, 7, or 8 on the box but they are unfathomably cheap with erratic results therefore.  You will get better results on WiFi by getting a gaming router, (even if you don't game at all) they often have ram, CPU capabilities that can deal with multiple users simultaneously and fairly. And because they are designed for gaming they are always fast.  In short just be sure to buy your own router no matter what provider you are with. I use Asus, designed in Taiwan made in china. When it comes to electronics buy Japanese Korean or Taiwan. Do not buy British, we have no idea how to make routers.

There's no chance that ISP routers are made here either...

One thing to remember is that the Sky Talk Internet Calls service relies on a Sky Hub being in use: it's not possible to successfully connect an analogue telephone handset to a non-Sky router even if it has the appropriate port.

But in reply to your 2nd paragraph, it is a common belief that you cannot use a sky telephone with a non sky router. I have had skys telephone services working on my fitzbox 7590 2 years ago before I bought my now Asus RT ax 5700.

I purchased Sky full fibre gigafast - as it was "ideal for the busy family household". But all it takes is one child to watch Youtube and the other Netflix and it grinds to a halt. Not as advertised.

You will need to explain more as to your issue e.g. are all devices using an ethernet cable from the hub? Is your issue a WiFi one in that other rooms in your home cannot receive fast internet. 

2 things to keep in mind. 1. speed to the hub should be largely consistent and this can be measured with an ethernet cable and computer/ laptop. 2. speed of WiFi will invariably be slower and the strength of the signal will deteriorate the further away a device moves from the hub.

All will be via WiFi. This wont be a WiFi signal strength issue because on a quieter day, each scenario will work fine. It just cannot handle 2 to 3 people streaming at once. 

An example was yesterday. I was streaming Netflix (WiFi). My daughter was watching Youtube on the smart TV (WiFi). My son attempted to play Xbox online, but had to stop due to the lag. It simply cannot offer what it is designed to do.

Hopefully a Sky customer/user will be along to  suggest if any settings might need to be changed in the Sky hub e.g Quality of Service (QoS).

When I have issues, I always start with seeing if the speed at the hub is correct. For this an ethernet cable and a computer/laptop is very useful. Otherwise suggest you do a speedtest via Netflix. 

I use my own DIY/ bespoke network equipment so cannot comment further.

Of course, you can always call Sky to explain the issue and hopefully they can get to the bottom of your issues.
