Free WiFi booster

Rang Sky today after riding about everyone getting free WiFi. Only to be told I'd have to go into a new contract in order to get one and pay extra per month for 18 months. That's ridiculous when the broadband is rubbish upstairs, I'm already on a supposedly good broadband with sky, you'd think it should range to all rooms in the house. Why am I being told to pay for one?

Because that's the business model which most ISPs use.

Sky loans wireless booster hardware 'free' under the terms of the 'WiFi Guarantee' element of 'Broadband Boost' and the 'Enhanced Wall to Wall WiFi Guarantee' part of the 'WiFi Max' subscription supplement: they don't otherwise provide or sell them except to resolve issues with Sky Q. Inevitably some have leaked onto a certain auction site, but Sky won't offer support with using these.

Confusingly the 'Wall to Wall WiFi Guarantee' doesn't actually provide booster hardware, and is essentially a sales lead generator for the supplements mentioned above.

Re: Free WiFi booster

I've fallen for this Sky scam too. Before Sky conned me into getting their latest router, everything was fine. Now it's awful. My recommendation is now to avoid Sky broadband like the plague. Sky have deteriorated are genuinely a hopeless broadband provider with hard to reach customer service.
