Since Sky only offers a static IP address to business customers, I needed to setup Dynamic DNS. For those of you that don’t know what I’m talking about, it’s an internet protocol that allows you to setup a domain name that can be used instead of an IP address – very useful if you wish to gain access to a service located inside your local network from a remote location.
The Sky hub offers three options for Dynamic DNS:
DynDNS.org ($55 per year)
NoIP.com (Free but you need to confirm Hostname Every 30 Days or $1.99 per month)
Dyns.cx (needs to donate $10 at sign-up, free after this)
Since Sky must have certified all three Dynamic DNS services (or so I thought!) I went for Dyns.cx, paid my donation and … Nothing. Dyns.cn seems to be completely dead, the website looks good and the PayPal donation system works. But no welcome email, no way of getting to your account and when you try to contact Dyns.cn you get undeliverable email and their Twitter has not been used in years.
I know I should have done more research before jumping for Dyns.cn but maybe you guys at Sky should have researched Dyns.cn as well – it is one of only three options you allow on your Hub after all.
So, in conclusion, DON’T USE DYNS.CN

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreConsidering this firmware for the Sky hub was developed 10+ years ago Its likely they have forgotten about the Dynamic DNS providers and obviously havent updated the list at all. Just because something is in the list on a router doesnt mean the provider is endorsing that company.

Careless though, and something to bring to the attention of Sky.
Whoever owns that dyns.cx domain is still renewing it and taking payments while apparently not providing a service which Sky is pointing its own subscribers towards.

One reason I've stuck with dyndns.org for the past 15 years and they don't require a mandatory update every 30 days.

I've been using dyns.cx for more than 18 months now with my SR203 router and it still seems to be working for me
