Do I need an Open Reach ONT
I have just signed up for Sky full fibre after cancelling my Virgin and having a very poor experience with 4th utility. I have both Virgin and city fibre ONT points, but not an open reach on. The advisor i spoke to at Sky when I signed up said i don't need an engineer as the Sky broadband will just plug in where my Virgin was. However after reading some forums I don't think that's the case. I just don't want to be without internet. Can anyone advise?

Re: Do I need an Open Reach ONT
Hi @LD78
That is incorrect, Sky cant use a Virgin connection for their broadband. However Sky can now use City Fibre networks so its likely you will connect to that.

Re: Do I need an Open Reach ONT
What speed were you offered. The same upload as download.? The decision from sky is that even if a customer has an existing openreach line sky will use cityfibre where it is available

Re: Do I need an Open Reach ONT
Have you been told that your upload is also 900Mbps. That would confirm cityfibre as openreach simply cannot offer symmetrical speeds 👍

Re: Do I need an Open Reach ONT
I don't think I was told an upload speed - I'll check see if it states in the contract. Happy if I don't need another

Re: Do I need an Open Reach ONT
The thing is as city fibre don't offer landline calls your landline still goes thru the openreach exchange into what are known as multi service access nodes so you connect skys voice and broadband network. Sky have just resolved an issue where people were being offered sky thru city fibre inspite of the fact that sky equipment is not available at that exchange

Re: Do I need an Open Reach ONT
Those are symetrical upload download speeds so defo city fibre as it stands
