CSP Installation place
Hello,
I am scheduled to receive full fibre 150 installation this week (fingers crossed). I live in a mid terrace, and when the engineer came to install the CSP I asked if it should be installed at the rear of the property where the existing internet cable comes in.
The engineer informed me that he was solely responsible for the CSP installation and more or less said the sky engineer would sort this
However, I am now concerned that the CSP may have been installed in an incorrect location, potentially meaning an Ethernet cable from the CSP at the front and the ONT at the rear.
Has anyone had experience with this situation in a mid terrace property?

Re: CSP Installation place
Typically Openreach won't bring the optical drop cable over or through a property: the CSP goes on an external wall closest to the point where the fibre enters the plot (either overhead or underground)

Re: CSP Installation place
@Rd1995 speak to the Sky engineer while there is some flexibility on where the ONT can be fitted they wont normally run cables under floors etc and usally fit the unit on the inside of the same wall as the CSP is on. The location of the ONT however doesnt stop you running an ethernet cable from its location to wherever you want the hub but that is not something that is included in the installation.

Yeah I'm going to speak to the engineer, ideally I'd like the ONT where the old internet cable is entering the house which is at the back, rather than having to trail an Ethernet cable through the whole house!

Re: CSP Installation place
@Rd1995 if the involves either going under the floor or over the roof it is very unlikely to be possible. The fibre pigtail cable is delicate with a minimum bend distance. Ethernet cable is much easiier to lay but is not part of the standard install.

Re: CSP Installation place
The ONT is connected to the CSP by fibre not ethernet. If the CSP has already been installed then it's highly unlikely Sky are going to run a fibre cable from one end of the house to the other. So you're likely going to have to run your own ethernet cable.
If you're subscribing to one of the lower packages then you might get away with powerline adapters between the ONT & router.

Re: CSP Installation place
We haven't had the ONT fitted yet, however there is a master socket right by the front door next to where the CSP has been fitted.
When we first had sky installed the engineer that came said it wasn't ideal to be running a Ethernet from there to where the router is.
There is an Ethernet port at the back of the house which we use to plug into the router we have at the moment

Re: CSP Installation place
Aplogies, that should have been CSP not ONT! Now edited.

My neighbours that are in a mid-terrace (kitchen at the front/living room at the back) had fibre installed recently and Openreach ran the fibre from the CSP through the house to where they wanted the ONT located. It helped that the kitchen units have an accessible void behind them, so the fibre could be run through there to the living room.

Re: CSP Installation place
Unfortunately we don't have that and it's a solid wall along in kitchen. I'll have to see what the engineer can do tomorrow!
Hopefully there's a neat solution
