Broadband question

Hello.
I am currently having issues with my home WiFi, hopefully someone could have some advice.

I have a black sky hub 4.2 I believe it's called , I have the sky gigafast 900 package previously i had the 150 package I think it was.

when it was upgraded to the 900 package I was asked by sky to use the 'FAST' speed checker app and was getting approx 140mbps. At the time , it was fine for me although perhaps not quite up there with the package. It did fluctuate between 80-140mbps.

approx a month ago I noticed the speed was lacking , apps taking an age to download , so checked again via the same app and the speed was approx 10mbps and when periodically checked even showed a 850kbps reading ......... On a separate check it showed 360mbps however this was just a one off and has been no where since  ..... but now it's around 10mbps or less continually each day all times of the day.

This seemed to just happen , the only change to the system set up was I added a mini box to my subscription.

sky sent a replacement router as said the line check was fine but test showed issue with router , same model, speeds were the same if not worse at under 10mbps. Sky say the line to the property is approx 700 so it's not the line I'm told.

sky are looking to send round an engineer but I was just curious if this jumped out to anyone with regards what's happening

apologies for the basic info but any thoughts would be great as it's becoming abit of a drain especially when I don't have the tech knowledge

best regards

@CJR841 one inescapable fact is that WiFi speeds will vary around your property as the signal is affected by the lsyout and type of construction of your home. If you have Sky Q with the hub you have each Q box  acts as a WiFi hotspot which devices will cinnect to if the signal is stronger but the speed that hotspot can deliver will depend on the speed of the connection from the Q box back to the hub known as backhaul..

From your description it sounds like the network needs optimising which hopefully sn engineer can do but there sre  limitations with the Sky Q system. When I had Sky Q there werecsimilar issues with a Sky Q mini in a bedroom which had a slow connection to the hub and main box downstairs while it just aboutoperated as a TV box  the WiFi speeds for devices upstairs were dreadful so I boughtva powerline networking kit which improved the backhaul speed between tge hub and the Q mini improving the WiFi speeds.

in ideal circumstances your Sky hub can only deliver around 650Mb/s over WiFi as it only supports WiFi5 not the faster WiFi6 newer hubs support. However your hub fully supports Sky Q so while you have that system that hub is a better solution than switching to the hub you get with the  Sky WiFi Max package which supports WiFi6 but does not support Sky Q minis or the Q mesh hotspots.
