Broadband Speed
I origanally had full fibre 150, experienced slow broadband speed and was advised toget full fibre 500. This was installed in May 2025 since then I still have intermitent low speed. It usually happens between 7pm and 11.00pm. The speed to my hub goes down as low as 2.1Mb way below the gaurenteed 400Mb. Kepp reporting to Sky only for the network team to say there is no fault. Last reported on 12/12/25 and apparently the investigation is still on going. No updates from Sky just a text message every so often "we are still looking into the problem". I am getting to the point of cancelling my broadband and going elswhere.
Ther is only myself and wife at the address and dont use games systems just Sky Glass, laptop and some alexa controlled devices. Any help appriciated.

Re: Broadband Speed
@Cadfael11 Can only say i have seen the slowdown once on the FF500 connection, and it was a real busy network night think it was that world club cup final night so everyone and there granny was streaming that no doubt, an OP posted about slow speeds, i did a quick test and yes speed was down lowest sustained thoughput was 200Mb/s speed wise so still had plenty headroom my end, linked below this for you to read and this is direct from OR site....
1. FTTP is a contended service, up to 32 users can be sharing the 2.5Gb backhaul, so you can never expect the full speed all the time, you may get 900mb when there are fewer people using it. I expect that you are sharing the backhaul with many users. If everyone was using it fully, you may only get 78mbs. Its called statistical multiplexing, which relies on the fact that all users are not utilising their connection fully, all of the time.
BT quote up to 900mb, so you are likely to get much less than that during peak times.
Speed tests pass very little data, so normally give a much higher speed.
2. The max OR connect to a splitter is 30 ( 32 is the splitter maximum but policy is 30 ) not every CBT port provided is likely to have a customer using it , so unless on a ‘new site’ that has no alternatives to OR FTTP the actual number on a splitter is likely to be way less , OR currently have about a 30% take up, so maybe 10 users per splitter , plus the majority don’t take 900Mb but slower profiles , and the chances of those ‘on line ‘ at any one time all and doing something intensive, rather than browsing / Netflix that may be consuming less than 30-100Mb , is slim , that’s why there is a 700Mb minimum speed guarantee on 900Mb …..the 2.4Gb will be plenty ,you would have to be incredibly unlucky to have any consistent congestion.
If you suspect PON congestion, try at a time when there won’t be much activity, late evening or early morning .

Re: Broadband Speed
@Cadfael11 As a little foot note for you 98% off the time i hit the FF500 at 510/70Mb/s speed's if someone ask's but NO two area's are alike and the Internet OR/Sky keeping up above the guarantee's is all a bit off waffle as you have zero control outside off the home!

Re: Broadband Speed
At all other times I have above the guarenteed speed. It seems the network team check my connection during the good speed time.

Re: Broadband Speed
@Cadfael11 You need to do the same, as i say the 400Mb/s is at times pie in the sky, i am really lucky so far, uptake is low only 3 connections on the CBT up the pole so far, VM is also area wise but only 2 connections on there one, and everyone else no doubt still on the copper, but it's all shared so not once have i been starved of data flow and the reason for going FF500 was simple, the household normal running will be around the 100Mb/s, wife is always on you tube and daughter may be 4K movie streaming or/and PS5 downloading....
Your low you see will be painfull that's for sure!
I also DO NOT have any sky Equipment on anymore, retired it all to the boxes....
