Broadband Costs

I have been with Sky broadband for many years & am currently paying £33.25pm for essential plus which Sky say involves £9 discount as full price is £42.25. Am currently on contract until next April.Full fibre has just been installed in our area & just had leaflet saying Sky offering full fibre for £29 instead of normal £35. Why is full fibre so much cheaper.Am i being ripped off & what do you suggest.

Because the wholesale cost of FTTP is lower to encourage migration away from copper.

No.

& what do you suggest.

Wait until Sky offers full fibre at the address and then see what they offer.

Re: Broadband Costs

Thanks for your helpful reply. Full fibre has just been installed in this area. Do you think I should now contact sky to try and renegotiate my full package to include fibre or wait till my current contact ends next April. On a separate point will fibre affect our landline phone as we have sky talk in our package.

Once it's available they'll typically be keen for you to migrate, but you might  get a better deal by waiting until renewal time

That becomes Sky Talk Internet Calls (technically VOIP) and the only functioning telephone socket is the one on the rear of the Hub.  Billing is the same though: either very expensive pence per minute or through a Sky Talk add-on.
