Is it unreasonable to expect that Sky would have sent out some sort of explanation and apology for what happened yesterday?

No as they simply could not contact 1000's of customers, they have apologised on the status page.

Some customers wouldn't be aware they'd been affected as it didn't go down til about 1030pm. Mine was working fine when I first looked in before 0530. If I hadn't seen 2000+ posts on the Broadband board I wouldn't have known there had been an issue.

Water board have no problem contacting thousands of people when they know of a problem and want to inform their customers.
