I have the superfast 80/20 Package and was getting 58 MBPS, and it has dropped slightly, as I have had a faulty router and had wifi problems and needed to turn it off a few times before. I have a new router that is working perfeclty now, would it be possible to get more speed out of the line, it might be possible for a 3db profile, to get around 16 more megabytes?? Is it worth ringing sky to say fault has been fixed and for a dlm reset??
Broadband Link Downstream Upstream Connection Speed 54997 kbps 7198 kbps Line Attenuation D1(17.6 dB) , D2(45.7 dB) , D3(69.7 dB) U0(6.0 dB) , U1(35.4 dB) , U2(0.0 dB) Noise Margin 7.0 dB 7.2dB

What is your guaranteed minimum speed?
Can you run tests on your my sky app and post the info in more about your connection

After around 1-2 weeks of complete stability DLM should automatically start stepping down the margin of your line until it reaches 3dB or a value of instability. You just need to leave everything connected and wait.

It's the download speed we estimated you'd get to your Sky hub at peak times when you bought your Sky Broadband.

Its a case of as @jamesn123 states a matter of waiting to see if dlm retrains the noise margin to 3db

A while ago the router was at 58 and was turned off a few times, it fell to the figure I posted, but noise margin was at 6.1 when it was 58, it could possbily reach over 70 if it was at 3db?? The line is performing better than it should but would be good to squeeze the most out of it. When I used to turn the router off and on it would increase speed when the noise margin was higher than 6 and be different each time its turned off and on, now when its turned off and on it stays at the downstream figure quoted, has it capped itself??

Would it be worth ringing sky to ask them to start the dlm line traning again??

No they will only do a dlm reset if you are below your minimum guarantee

Doing a DLM reset achieves nothing but instability until the broadband line settles at likely the speed you are getting now or very slightly more mainly because the D3 band has such high attenuation which nothing can be done about because of the distance to the cabinet, and likely fact the cabinet is nearly full so get higher cross-talk at the higher frequencies D2/D3.
The best advice has been given by @jamesn123 leave the connection alone, don't reboot the router, and accept any speed at its current level or very slightly higher because the D3 band isn't carrying any capacity and the maximum speed without that band is 60Mbps, absolute maximum with D3 band missing.

Thats literally the worst thing you can do to an FTTC line. You are basically trying to force it to hit a margin it cant sustain until eventually the line noise becomes too much and the line drops. DLM is not something you just play around with until you get it how you like it, its a complicated tool that needs to be left alone to do its own job.
Phoning Sky will achieve nothing other than wasting your own time and resetting the 1-2 week period where it trains itself.

Ok, Are you saying to leave the router alone and it could return to a bit more speed?? But it might not go over 60?? unless its at 3db
07 Jun 2022 11:10 PM
Yep, leave the router alone don't reboot it or switch it off for the next 10 days, once that has happened then you'll see if the noise margin goes down to 3dB and speed increases, but be advised that because the D3 band is at 69dB attenuation it doesn't carry additional capacity it's dead because of distance to the cabinet. With the 2 bands left D1 & D2 downstream will only usually carry a capacity of a maximum of around 60Mbps, eg: D1 35Mbps & D2 25Mbps maximum = 60Mbps maximum.

I see, so the fact that my two downstream attenuations, 17.6 dB and D2 45.7 dB the most I could get would be 63.3 megabytes
08 Jun 2022 03:02 PM
You won't get 63.3 megabytes as the measurement is in megabits per second (Mbps)...
08 Jun 2022 04:04 PM
oh ok so it could get around 63 judging by the attenuation figures
