ASUS 3rd Party Router Help
Hello,
I have Sky Ultrafast Plus - which I am assuming is FTTP 500mbps. I have an openreach box in my home next to the master socket. I am based in Glasgow. I currently have an Eero mesh system but I am not satisfied with it's performance. I have 3 nodes in my home and my speeds are limited to circa 200mbps on a good day. This drops dramatically whenever I am away from the nodes. My Partner and I both work from home and are in need of a decent WiFi signal. Additionally, where we stay, there is no mobile phone signal; therefore, are reliant on WiFi calling. We have a 'smart' home with a Sonos system; Hue system; Hive system; Ring system; Apple TV; Sky; iPads etc etc.
I am looking for some advice in relation to getting a 3rd Party ASUS Router. I have a voucher for Argos; therefore, I am limited to buying from this store only.
I am not a technophobe; however, I am not fully up to speed with WiFi etc. I am more interested in tinkering with the laptop etc.
The routers I have looked at in Argos are : -
ASUS TUF AX3000;
ASUS TUF AX4200; and
ASUS TUF AX6000.
I have done a comparison on the ASUS website and it looks like the main differences are the WiFi data rate. The former has up to 2402mbps on 5GHZ and the latter has up to 4804mbps on 5GHZ. Additionally, the latter of the 3 has 6 antenna as opposed to the 4 of the other two.
I live in a new build and, 4x bedrooms in each corner upstairs, 2 sitting rooms downstairs and kitchen/ dining the width of the house at the back. My home has circa 1,500 sqft of living space.
Whenever I have looked online, I am unable to find any definitive on the coverage of any of the aforementioned routers.
My router will be placed in the living room which is at the front of the home.
My question is - is the AX3000 sufficient for me? Or am I best to pay the additional money to get the higher data rate and additional antenna on the AX6000?
Will these routers be straight forward in installing straight from the FTTP Openreach box? I would prefer to get rid of the Sky Router and Eero system entirely.
Hope this makes sense and any help would be appreciated.

Re: ASUS 3rd Party Router Help
The asus tuf ax3000 v2 should work directly connected to the openreach ont and the wan speed would be ample for an openreach 1Gbps connection.. it should cover around 2200sqft in itself but people have added aimesh nodes to form a wifi -ethernet bridge where a device can be etherneted to a mesh node and to make sure the whole home is blanketed in wifi
Sky Stream , Sky Superfast, SR203 router, Tp link td w9970 + Asus RT AX58U (backup), Xbox Series X, google home mini, LG 55 inch uhd tv, with Dolbyvision, samsung a5 2017 and samsung s21
If I get it right mark as answered
If I get it wrong humour me
If I say something you like give a thumbs up
