Re: 3rd party router it vpn
Sky doesn't block the use of other hardware: they just won't help with it either.
Note that accessing Sky Talk Internet Calls requires use of a Sky Hub.
Using a router with a built-in VPN is likely to cause issues with on-demand services (plus everything on Sky Glass and Sky Stream) unless host devices are configured as exceptions.

Re: 3rd party router it vpn
@Andyg31 you can use a third party router if you want but whatever unit you buy will require to be set up to authenticate the connection to Sky's servers. Sky use 2 methods the first is DHCPv4 Option 61 with a log in string in the form of anything@skydsl|anything this works on any Sky line in the UK but router support for this varies. The second method is DdHCPv6 PD which almost every router supports but roughly 20% of lines cannot use this method. It isnt piossible to know whether a specific line will support the second method in advance.
Asus routers are a populst choice for the minority of users who want a third party router as they support either system.
