update sky plus to wifi

Hi,  Im trying to stream discovery plus but after research found out my sky plus is an old system that doesnt have wifi. I know I can buy an adapter but with postage to ireland it looks quite expensive. Is there a way I can update the sky box I have or can I order a newer one from sky? I dont have a HD tv so have been told I cant get sky q

Thanks

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more

Discovery+ streams via an app, not via Sky's On Demand services. Sky boxes can't host apps at all, regardless of whether they're wifi capable or not.

In short, Discovery+is only available on Sky Q boxes, I'm afraid.

@kittykaycat

You won't be able to stream Discovery + on a Sky+HD box with built in WiFi or by adding a WiFi adapter to your box.

Sky+HD does not support Apps only SkyQ.

Supported devices are:

iPhone / iPad / AppleTV4

iPhone 5 running iOS 11 or later

iPad2 running iOS 11 or later

tvOS running tvOS 10 or later

Android and Android TV

Android phones and tablets running 7.0 (Nougat) and later

Smart TV and Connected Devices

Samsung TV running Tizen 2.4 (2016) or later
Android TV running Android 7 or later

Smart TV and Connected Devices

Fire TV devices running OS 5 or later

Chromecast

You can enable Chromecast from our iOS and Android apps.

Minimum requirement is Chromecast Generation 2.

PC/Mac Recommended browsers

Windows < 10

  •    Chrome 51+
  •    Firefox 41+

Windows 10

  •    Edge 16+
  •    Chrome 51+
  •    Firefox 41+

MacOS > 10.10

  •    Chrome 51+
  •    Firefox 41+
  •    Safari 11+ (live simulcast streams cannot be viewed via Safari)

Linux > 4.4

  •    Chrome 51+
  •    Firefox 41+

Devices such as a Firestick or Chromecast etc. will connect to your TV via an HDMI input, if you don't own an HD TV then you're out of luck.

Regards
