notice given to cancel broadband and sky talk

Hi

I have decided to switch to Virgin after 13 years with sky and have given notice  to cancel the broadband and landline which will terminate on the 11 April.  In order to port the number over the line needs to be active but just in case theres an issue with install date is it possible to delay cancelling the BB and phone?

I am led to believe that in order for VM to port the number the line needs to be active but by giving notice this may not allow the number to port over.  I have been told that when VM requests the landline number then that effectively gives notice to sky and then that cancels the BB and phone and ends the contract.  I am out of my sky minimum term now and free to leave

thanks

I was given this iThe only thing you should be cancelling yourself with Sky is the TV service"

Is this not correct?

From Sky's help guide:

"Rather than cancelling your services with us completely to switch to your new provider, you can normally place your order without contacting us.

If you’re switching to Virgin Media’s cable, BT Ultrafast Fibre, Fibre to the Premises from another provider though, or exercising a right to leave that we’ve told you about, you'll need to get in touch with us....."

You can cancel your cancellation during the notice period. You would then need to give fresh notice to cancel when you judge it to be appropriate.

Virgin can't cancel Sky broadband on your behalf.

Re: notice given to cancel broadband and sky talk

hi @Mark39

I was given this info from the VM forum

" Giving notice of cancellation direct to your old provider will block any landline  number port request from going through. The correct OFCOM procedure for landline number porting is that the new provider handles the entire transfer INCLUDING closure of the old landline account. The only thing you should be cancelling yourself with Sky is the TV service"

Is this not correct?

@cc1970

In respect of your Sky Broadband, if you are cancelling broadband totally or are moving to Virgin you'll have to contact Sky and give the required notice of 14 days. This link should help https://www.sky.com/help/articles/cancel-sky-broadband
If you are changing to another ISP who also uses the Openreach infrastructure then join up with them and they should contact Sky on your behalf.

Hi @Daniel0210

I have in fact given 31 days notice to cancel both the TV and BB and phone and they end on the 11th April

Regards
