if you miss the start of a program is it possible to watch from the start

It depends on what the program is and the channel as some new programs on Sky One or Sky Witness are sometimes added to catchup within minutes of the program being broadcast so you should be able to download to watch it but for others you might have to wait as per the post from @bob1234 .
