Text messages

Good day, i cannot send text messages on my phone. It keeps coming back with message not sent. this has been happening for a while and i have 4G coverage on my phone. I have tried from a different location this morning.

Hi @ZK2connects 

 

Have you tried going through device support? To give it a go click here and select your device from the list, then go down to fix a problem, the click on signal, calls, messaging, roaming or a SIM. 

 

Let me know how you get on or if you have any questions.

yes i have followed through the process metioned. issue still not resolved. only option not tried is to order a repacement SIM to check.

Can you tell me if the issue is just with texts or do you have problems with calls and data as well?

just texts. calls, data all good. it has been going on for a while i have to resend text messages multiple times before it goes but this morning after sending a few texts successfully i can no longer send text or reply text messages. @FernSparrow

yes i have ordered a SIM replacement although not sure that is the issue but followed steps on the link you shared. @FernSparrow

A faulty SIM can cause issues with sending texts messages @ZK2connects, so a replacement could resolve the issue. Our troubleshooting guides are tested so as you were advised to try a replacement SIM that would be the next best action. 

 

If you have another unlocked device available you could try the SIM in that device. If it works fine in another device, it would be more likely to be an issue with the device you currently use.

Thanks, i just put the Sky SIM into another phone and it is thesame issue, cannot send text. I have put a different provider SIM on my phone and text was sent succesfully. Which confirms no issue with the phone. @FernSparrow.

I was able to send some text late in the night yesterday and after sending few it stopped again. Until this afternoon i could not send text messages. Just tried now and can send text again. can it be something on the Sky network limiting me once i send a few sms or multiple sms or is time of the day dependent to send sms ? @FernSparrow

Is that with a replacement SIM @ZK2connects?

Can you confirm if you have the issue everywhere or at certain locations? 

 

The time of day or that you've recently sent texts shouldn't cause any problems. The only thing I can think that could limit you is if your text messages are being converted into picture messages and you have a spend cap.  

A text may be converted into a picture message if:

  • It’s longer than 160 characters
  • It includes attachments such as photos, videos, music or other files
  • It’s sent as a group message/to a large number of contacts
  • It’s sent to an email address
  • It has a subject line
  • It’s longer than 10 standard texts
  • It includes some picture icons/emojis such as smiley faces
  • It contains some iPhone message features and is sent to an Android/incompatible phone

No i dont have the replacement SIM yet, it happens in a couple of locations. Yes but the message count shows me if it is longer than one SMS. Also it happens with just a short word as well. I have unlimited sms so should not be an issue. cannot confirm if it is converting it to picture message, how do i verify this and stop this happening? But same message is resent succesfully and at times cannot even reply with a "thanks". 

- no icons, no emojis's

- yes i tried sending message to a group of 20 which works fine sometimes. Is there any limitation on sending group sms?

- i have an android phone so the iphone to android issue might not be applicable. 

- no subject line and not sent to email. just standard text.

Based on what's happening it wouldn't be an issue with texts being converted to picture messages. I can't find any information to say there is a limit on sending group messages but if Sky found your text usage to be above what we'd expect from a customer using the service for personal use you would be sent a letter. 

 

If it's happening at multiple locations that should rule out a mast issue.  The next step would  try the replacement SIM when it arrives.

My text usage is average or possibly less than average when it works @FernSparrow

Hi - did you ever get a resolution to this? I'm having terrible issues sending texts to non-iPhone users at the moment.

@ DenaWena.  Not resolved. Been quite busy due to end of year activities and been relying on alternative medium to send my text. messages. 

The phone signal from Sky where i live is also not very good. Call keeps dropping so been having multiple issues.
