Strange Router Behaviour
Hi all,
Hopefully someone will be able to help take a look at the odd beahiour I'm getting from my router this past 5 days. My connection is dropping very frequently. Sorry I can'tpost the code snippet as it contains number sequences not allowed in the community.
Thanks in advance for you help.
Liam

Also invalid wanoe at dhcp lease renewal indicates an issue granting a new lease to your public ip suggesting anything from dodgy internal wiring to an external line fault

Re: Strange Router Behaviour
@cookiemonsteruk thanks for looking - since earlier I tried hitting the reset button on the back and it's maintaining a stable connection for the moment! I think it started acting up after a power cut we had last week. Though prior to that it would always disconnect around 19:30 most nights

Re: Strange Router Behaviour
Slightly raised noise margin in my opinion but line attenuation ds2 is 26db higher than ds1 but only 4db lower than ds3. Does this look like a line fault. Router reset and reporting more stable line. Any suggestions? Many thanks
@LiammK still waiting for image to be moderated. Can you post router stats this time tomorrow ?

Re: Strange Router Behaviour
Just over 1,5Mbps above the guarantee. Lets hope that the reset has stabilised the line. time will tell, with a guarantee of 55Mbps i would expect you to have a maximum of 70-75Mbps. i still suspect a line fault. Get back to us tomorrow

Re: Strange Router Behaviour
There is a broadband line fault that shows itself with what @cookiemonsteruk has stated and mainly the disparity on US1 compared to US2, eg: US1 is higher attenuation than US2 and that will only happen when the cable is damaged at some point along the broadband line.

Re: Strange Router Behaviour
Thanks for looking into this @mae-3 would it be worth me inspecting the line as it enters the property or are we talking outside the property. In the Last few weeks FTTP has gone live in this area and almost every box in the street has been opened and fiddled with!

"FTTP has gone live in this area"
Enter your full postal address below and post the table.

Might be a win-win situation if fttp is availble. Sky may be reluctant to fix old technology and you can still possibly get your 80Mbps superfast speed thru fttp on a more reliable technology

Re: Strange Router Behaviour
An attenuation fault would be external to the premises in almost all cases except when the router electronics is faulty, eg: it could be a router fault which should be replaced first in my opinion. It may be the fault on the broadband line that has shot the electronics when they were opening junction boxes, etc...

Re: Strange Router Behaviour
@LiammK you could ask Sky to switch you to the full fibre service. They sell 3 products firstly the Superfast 80Mb/s down 20 up service you have now can be delivered over fibre and will be faster and far more stable you will get the speeds advertised. They also offer Ultrafast which is 145Mb/s down or Ultrafast Plus which offers 500Mb/s if you need those speeds and can afford the extra cost. They do not sell a 1Gb/s servicexas yet but in practice very few peole can fully use 500Mb/s so unless you want bragging rights in the pub it shouldn't bother you.
Although in theory you can order online in practice we find calling is far more likely to work forcexisting customers. For some reason Sky can be slower at being able to order FTTP services in areas recently upgraded than other isps.
65inch Sky Glass, 3 Sky Streaming Pucks, Sky Ultrafast + and Sky SR213(white Wifi Max hub) main Wifi from 3 TP-Link Deco M4 units in access point mode
