@LGUser I agree. It's imperative to have expiry dates prominently displayed and plenty of time to watch any series that has an expiry date against it.

If we have the expiry date shown, then we'll know if we do have the time to watch or not. I did make a spreadsheet to figure out roughly how many episodes of Grey's Anatomy I would have to watch each day.I did find out from someone using Sky+HD that GA did not expire once downloaded.
These days, I could watch most of GA on Disney+ and if need be, buy the missing seasons on Amazon Prime Video.
I can use the Sky+ app to see when somethong on Catch-Up/On Demand expires, but I bet a lot of users would not know they can do that. And we don't get any way to find out the expiry date other then at least 31 days once downloaded uness we can ask someone using Sky+HD.

Re: Sky to launch Sky Q without dish by Xmas based on Xfinity X1 box
Hope this is wrong but there are some rumours going around in the media at the moment that Sky is going to incorporate the whole Sky TV package into their TV's, that is, special TV sets which people will then have to buy from Sky, so rather than just getting the box, people will be forced to get a whole new TV set from them, Sounds nuts, so I really hope this is all just nonsense but if it is true, no way Jose, not for me.

How to answer: Well, yes & no.
Yes it is rumoured they are launching a New TV with associated minis
No, don't think there is any truth in them expecting existing subscribers to buy their TV's, they have millions of subscribers so it would be shooting themselves in the foot if they ever considered this.

Yes but just to be clear here, I'm not referring to the dishless service itself, I'm referring to the fact that this was supposed to be about a new dishless Sky TV box service, not a new TV set that has this service built into it. How many people who would be interested in getting Sky, dishless, internet TV etc will be interested in changing their TV sets just to get it? That's what I'm on about!

Re: Sky to launch Sky Q without dish by Xmas based on Xfinity X1 box
@Silver+Surfer+64 only Sky's management know for certain what is being announced on the 7th what you are reading are uncomfirmed rumours. A TV looks very likely but other sources have mentioned set tp boxes so currently take your pick which is right and consider both might be.
The people who know aren't saying as if they work for Sky or one of its suppliers they will have signed NDAs so their jobs depend on it. The rest of us are guesiing at this point.

@Chrisee Although the image of the packaging of the puck seems to indicate that you need to setup a Sky Glass system before installing the puck, so it would seem they are inextricably linked somehow.

@Joe-Bow there are rumours of the Comcast x1 box coming as well as the puck and there are the boxes used in Europe which could come here but it is all guess work until next Thursday. Sky are keeping this very hush hush. .
In the end something "magical" could just turn out to be a VIP competition to win a trip to Harry Potter World 😀

Re: Sky to launch Sky Q without dish by Xmas based on Xfinity X1 box
@ChriseeLol, all the box set again on Sky Cinema for Christmas!!
Yes, it looks like the X1 is being released here although my concern is for Q as none of the other stuff presently interests me. Q app or Sky Go on Apple/ Fire TV does and we know is possible, and Sky Go on Echo Show devices would be awesome. Even expanding it out to Smart TVs would do. All doable and some currently being done in other territories, so there is no excuse really for not already doing it.
I mean, since Q has released they've managed to create the Soundbox and this new Sky Glass and puck system.
A bit of dev to make those the Q app or Sky Go available on streaming devices when they've been on mobile devices for a long time seems strangely bizarre considering the mini box limitations on Q.

There isn't a snowball in Hell's chance that this will be their business model. Too many of their existing and potential customers already have £'000s invested in the latest and greatest TV and audio equipment and they aren't going to throw that out with the bath water.
At the very least, the satellite system will continue to operate alongside the new IP system for as long as a viable number of customers want it.
More likely, the new IP system will come in a choice of form factors enabling those who want to receive it via their own TVs to do so. Albeit there may be some features/services which are exclusively available through the Sky TV (if there is one)…
Nor can Sky afford to alienate any of the big players in the industry, including the TV manufacturers. It would only take Netflix and a couple of other apps to withdraw from the Sky ecosystem for it to become a really easy decision to dump Sky - especially after the technical glitches which have taken them years to fix.
Moreover, the universe of folk with a good enough (fibre) internet service is still relatively small (only 25% of homes even have access to it) so Sky can't afford to hitch their wagon exclusively to that market, although it will come one day - maybe in 5-10 years' time.
32B12C 2TB UHD Q box • Mini boxes x2 (32D0B2) • 2022 LG C2 OLED TV • Software vQ230.000.14.00L • Gigaclear gigabit FTTH broadband (935Mbps up/down) • Linksys Velop tri-band router; 3 mesh nodes • All Q boxes fully Cat6 hardwired • Q wi-fi disabled • Q picture/audio processing disabled (no sound bar) • Pixellation cured by Q170 but back again with Q190 and now every few minutes with Q210 and Q220 live broadcasts and recordings on all boxes

Re: Sky to launch Sky Q without dish by Xmas based on Xfinity X1 box
Part of the problem is that some people are stuck with Sky as they cannot get Virgin. There's nothing better then Sky for satellite TV. Virgin could do service over IP and then those that have good enough broadband and people could get that if they wanted. But for now, the two players are Sky and Virgin and Sky wins just on the fact that it's available most places in the UK. I don'tconcider the others to be real players.

Yes, you'll be absolutely correct if they've got a firm grip on reality then this could never be a viable business model, they would lose customers in bulk, that's for sure but there are some companies that grow so big that they lose touch, customers and what's convenient for them becomes insignificant in their considerations and what might seem obvious to everyone else isn't factored into the equation by those out of touch companies. Hopefully, that's not the case with Sky, though, but I'm not making any presumptions based on how I might see it or how anyone in touch sees it, instead, it has to be based on a hope that they will see what we see.

Given that Comcast, Sky's parent company, are launching both the standalone XiOne box and their own branded TV would suggest the group understand the market they're in.
