Re: Sky router is it good enough?
People are forced to use ethernet to make use of the extra speed that can't be supplied on 5ghz and they don"t have enough devices to utilise the remaining speed on 2.4ghz. So i agree with you. 5ghz ax wifi 6 appears to get 96% line speed 👍

As for sky being a budget BB supplier i think that is up for debate too.
Please elabourate. On a list of the majority of ISPs in the UK for superfast, ordered by price, Sky appear on page 2 of 6. And on page 3 of 8 for Ultrafast

I'm not arguing, I'm asking for your opinion/evidence as to why Sky isnt a budget ISP.

Re: Sky router is it good enough?
Frankly all ISPs in the UK are a 'bargain': thanks to cut-throat competition unlimited volume broadband costs consumers around £1 a day, with an almost negligible profit margin for the supplier on any individual account. The odd couple of pounds per month between most expensive and cheapest really isn't significant in terms of the equipment they can supply to subscribers over the course of a minimum contract period.

Re: Sky router is it good enough?
@ian2512 what is beyond dispute is that Sky are a mass market provider. They have the third largest number of broadband customers after BT and Virgin. They primarily compete on price, but they also claim to compete on service and added "features" like parental control etc. but that is more open to question. They are usually among the cheapest supplier but it depends on the offers being made.
They have zero interest in supporting anything other than their own hubs which they supply on a no cost loan basis. There are other smaller suppliers who offer more specialist services and better support for third party kit an example is the well respected Zen but you tend to pay more. Horses for courses.
@cookiemonsteruk your apparent preference for wifi over ethernet is to say the least unusual. All of the IT pros I know only use wifi where ethernet is impractical not so much due to speed which is only one factor in a good network link as, for many applications like gaming, low jitter is more important. Of course you can get far faster ethernet links than gigabit 10gigabit being in reasonably common use and I believe 400GE has been ratified. Do not expect either of those in domestic kit for some years.
As with previous wifi standards Wifi 6 will probably become universal but it will take several years. If you want the ,latest bells and whistles you have to pay a premium, expecting ISPs to immediately adopt a standard that most devices can't support is unrealistic. Wifi 6 was ratified in late 2019 and although chip sets existed before that they were based on the draft standard.
ISPs expect many years service out of their loaned kit. I would expect the next Sky hub will offer wifi6 mainly for bragging rights rather than practical benefit but dont hold your breath we knew the Hub 4 aka SR203 was coming for well over a year before it was released.
