Sky pucks not WiFi hotspot

Just curious why pucks aren't doubled up as hotpots like sky q is. Didn't realise this at the time of purchase. Admittedly more complex tech but already offered in q mini boxes

@Danno23 not using the rather complex wifi mesh technology that Q uses simplifies set up for people who do not have Sky Broadband. When developed Q was one of the only whole home wifi systems available  these days there are lots most of them are considerably better. However if you got the old Q system to work for your wifi as I had it means an extra expense replacing that function.

Q was developed to use a dedicated router, the Sky Q hub which their broadband customers get. When installed with say a BT router you get complications as only the main Q box can link to the BTwifi and the minis have to link to a closed wifi signal from the main box. This adds a lot of issues as you can see if you read the Q forum.

Re: Sky pucks not WiFi hotspot

Hi, thanks for the info. Makes a lot of sense as it opens up end user availability by not being  closed to sky routers.

Having issues with the puck after 2 weeks of no issues so may see if I can get the Q router swapped back to the previous model which pushed the signal further throughout my house despite still getting over 20mbs in the location of the puck

There's no mechanism from Sky for going back from a Q Hub to an SR102, which is effectively obsolete: you could buy one privately if you really wanted.

Range issues are partly due to the Q form factor, and partly because unlike the SR102 it is dual-band and 5Ghz is inherently shorter range than 2.4Ghz

Re: Sky pucks not WiFi hotspot

Apparently the intermittent cutting out is a problem with the puck as the TV doesn't lose the hdmi signal but just goes blank and unresponsive. Will have to see if this solves the trouble
