Sky TV via cable

I live in a Grade 2 listed property so cannot hang the satellite dish high up, it's currently on the garden wall. Problem is nearby trees affect the reception, especially when wet. When/how can we upgrade to receive the service by cable?

There is no word on if and when anything like this will happen I'm afraid.

@Erica+Funnyfanny

Sky television in the UK requires a satellite dish.  There's a dishless (online-only) version of Sky Q in Italy, but this cannot do UHD or support the same number of Recordings and remote client devices as 'real' Q.

Re: Sky TV via cable

That's not solely true, in redisental building complexes, it can be via cable via a main satelite to all tennents.

But one would need permission from the landlord/local council/etc

The best you can do is think of Now TV.

Whilst what you have said is sort of true, it's not accurate in all instances.

I am about to move into a new build property that has a communal satellite system as you suggest, however the one they have doesn't seem to be compatible with Sky Q and as it's part of a much larger development, it doesn't seem like the contractors are inclined to replace /upgrade the communal systems so Sky Q can be installed unfortunately.

@RononDex

Q has been around for five years now and is the only current Sky product: Sky+ HD boxes were last manufactured in 2015.  Any developer not specifying Q in new-build property is frankly being negligent.

Re: Sky TV via cable

Perhaps, however I don't think the system has been put in with Sky in mind at all and is more geared towards freesat.

the reason I say this is because "media" panel in the sitting room only has a single satellite connection, as opposed to the twin connections required for Q,, Sky HD or even Sky + back in the day.

The dish also looks more like a BSB "Squarial" from a Labour 30 years ago.

I spoke to Sky to discuss what options might be available to me and they have threatened to give me a Sky HD box !!!!!

A main Sky Q box, like Sky+ HD boxes, can be set to 'SCR Mode' to use a single feed: that's always been the case for communal systems which frequently only have one cable feed into each unit to reduce wiring.  The key is that the signal distribution hardware has to be compatible with Q.

I have managed to get this picture of the media panel thats in my new living room, i am curious about the fact the single satellite connector is labelled as SAT/Q.  Now i know how and to what its wired to is far more important but is it likely, or should i say would it be common practice to label a socket in this way as an inidcator it is compatible with Sky Q?

Could just be how the manufacturer chose to label it, and typically such a plate with TV and radio outlets would be a potential issue for Q.  I guess it might imply they've taken this into account.

That would be an antennae (aerial) for digital terrestrial (Freeview) reception.  There's no such thing as a 'portable indoor dish' as all satellite reception requires precise line of sight to the orbiting broadcast platform.  Some specialist suppliers do have portable satellite dishes, but that's different.

Yes, which surprisingly is full of downright dishonest adverts sprinkled with ludicrous range claims and logos for channels not transmitted terrestrially in the UK.  Despite what they claim, it is not possible to receive satellite channels through an aerial: digital terrestrial reception is limited to whatever the local Freeview multiplex is transmitting.
