Over the last couple of weeks I have started to experience picture and sound dropouts on the sky box.
Sometimes it's stable, but at other times it is regularly giving a black picture and no sound, sometimes for a couple of seconds. It got so bad last night that it was unwatchable.
I've tried power off for 30 seconds, and no change.
i've checked the external temperature of the box, and it is not unduly hot.
Please help.

I've been suffering with this problem for weeks now - sometimes it goes hours without doing it, sometimes it's pretty much constant. I replaced the HDMI cable last night and the picture has noot got off once since. I'm not counting my chickens yet, I'm still expecting it to play up but this is the longest I've gone without a drop out in ages. This is the HDMI I bought

I'm going to say this has fixed my problem. Not a single black screen in over 24 hours. I hope this helps someone as it was driving me mad.

Following discussions with sky the hdmi cable was identified as the cause.
