Sky Q from Launch (2016), £99 per Sky Q Mini Box. Cancellation.

Hi,

I have been a loyal sky customer for coming over 12 years and I have decided recently to excercise my consumer rights and shop around.

I pre ordered Sky Q back in 2016 and was the first install the engineer in my area did. at the time of ordering I recall j paid £99 per Sky Q mini box.

Over recent years as I have renewed contracts and resolved technical issues I realised I was leasing the equipment as part of the contract.

Today I have cancelled the multiroom Sky q so I have been asked to return 2 x Sky q mini boxes. I am fine with this in principal.

However I tried to have a discussion with the advisor and he could not provide me any record to what I paid the £99 fees for.

I have looked back and Sky never attach bills to email so the emails I have from 2016 don't include the fine grain detail of the charges. Logging into MySky only goes back 2 years.

My question to Sky is why did I pay for my Sky q mini boxes originally? I believed I was buying them at the time. Therefore based on my 2016 understanding I own them?

If your asking for me to return the boxes are you going to refund me for the £99 fees?

Thanks

Anthony

Hi @Node27

Afraid you are not contacting Sky directly here as this is a customer forum.
If you need to contact them you need to persevere by phone.

I also took Q in 2016 and also paid £99 per mini box.

The £99 one off fee per mini is an additional charge for Activation and viewing on additional TV.

It clearly states in the Terms and conditions that all Q boxes are only rented.

@Node27

It was an activation fee. No, you aren't entitled to a refund on that. Don't forget to keep your proof of posting safe and indefinitely.

hi @Node27 the fee charged is an 'Admin' fee and not a deposit or a purchase cost.

Thus, unfortunately it will not be returned when the SKY Q minis are returned to SKY

If you do not return the minis you will be charged an additional non-return fee and they still remain SKY's property (although I believe a non-return fee is refunded when they do get the kit back)

Whether the Admin fee is justified is, of coure, open to personal opinion
