Sky Q HDR

Hi. When I am watching HDR programes on my Sky Q box after about half an hour the picture goes dark and if I check the picture settings on my TV its says UHD SDR. Its ok if I use the apps built into the TV or use a firestick.

Does this happen when you are watching live sport programmes with HDR or also on downloaded HDR content? What make/model of TV do you have?

Sky Q's HDR implementation has always been a bit flaky. Your TV and Firestick apps will always be more stable and better quality when it comes to UHD & HDR as they are optimised for streaming. Sky Q is a jack of all trades type box. Designed principally as a satellite receiver/recorder but with some streaming apps thrown in for convenience, not quality.

Re: Sky Q HDR

@hertsguy, what's the make and model of your TV?  HDR dropping back to SDR has been an ongoing intermittent problem for some of us.  It appears to be caused by the Sky Q box failing/stopping to send the HDR infoframe.

Re: Sky Q HDR

Thanks for reply.

Looking at the link it seems a common problem. Shame because I had to pay £50 for later box and buy a new tv to get HDR so that was a waste of money.

You should use the TV apps for Prime and Netflix. That way you'll get the best quality Dolby Vision HDR. Sky Q can't ouput Dolby Vision, so you're not making use of the full features of your TV.

Is this more of a V3 box issue because I've never had it happen on my V2 box.

Current working theory is that it only affects v3 TITAN boxes.

Me neither. Though I never watch live HDR sport... or much in the way of any Sky HDR content come to think of it...
