Re: Sky HDR

Not that hard to stream now if you have right infra structure. 1gb networks quite cheap now. If you didn't want network change you just put boxes next to each other!

4k mini must be in development surely.

question

would you wait for that or lose recordings, just for lemurs?

Re: Sky HDR

THis is a question i know wont get answered...why cant sky tell V1 owners when the upgrade path will be avaialble?

also why cant sky state to those V1 renters, that the upgrade path will be free to them now!  sky have had years to look at this issue and were here at soft rollout and they still dont have solid answers for loyal customers....i would love those employees to answer this one

Re: Sky HDR

For info, HDFury reports everything looks correct for HLG:

But suprisingly, switching the Sky Q box to 8-bit output, and the HLG recording continues to play okay. So, either the HLG content is only 8-bit, or the v2 box is able to convert 10-bit content to 8-bit output.

Re: Sky HDR

@Lp12man  your family are absolutely correct, losing your recordings for a few monkeys/Lemurs in sharper detail really isn't worth it.

The v1 box is 100Mbit/s networking, not gigabit. Streaming would be from the main box not over the internet and that's  probably not possible to do with the v1.

Creating some sort of UHD streamer implementation (with the infrastructure required - both technical and support/distribution of hardware to customers)  would take longer than the box swap process to implement anyway.

Re: Sky HDR

To be honest I thought all these new nature programmes were in HDR but it's only the lemurs, the one about the Aussies moving to the African game park and one other show.

Which is why Sky have  said they want the box swap process to be in place before all HDR content is available.

@rscott

i hope your right, and i hope sky dont intend to charge us for it, as i have read nowhere that the process will be free. that is something sky could reassure customers now there wont be a charge

Re: Sky HDR

@GoldenPhoenix  knowing how large corporations work I'd hazard a guess that the "case" for spending all that money replacing boxes is bouncing around within Sky from beancounter office to beancounter office. How Sky must wish they'd waited before diving into UHD too early. And a UHD which isn't much better than HD without HDR

Re: Sky HDR

The deference between Apple Phone and your Sony product that u have mention is that they were paid for by u I would say my SkyQ is rented and if u leave Sky it goes back to them so while I am renting and u r possibly renting also but the way u r talking u might not b,as I am renting and new updates keep coming I as a renter wants the best possible Sky Experience possible for my money,so I still say us renters who have not got a up compatible 1tb/ 2tb Sky box should have a upgrade for nowt.

Re: Sky HDR

a simple online form to complete emailed out to all customers who want to upgrade their V1 box could be completed. sky could then guage how many people are actually interested in upgrading. some people may not want to upgrade to hdr, or even know what it is. but at least they would have the opportunity. plenty of ways to communicate with customers, and listen to them.

Just thinking how sky could fix this positively for v1 box holders.

how about releasing a mini that is 4K hdr then v1 holders could have 4K in 2 rooms and don't lose their recordings. Reaction from my family to box swap was "not again, let's not bother don't want to lose recordings for lemurs! You've got loads of hdr on Apple TV!"

@Lp12man  I don't wish to harp on about it but, just to double check, you haven't gone through the set-up process on Apple TV and left it on their recommended output setting of 4K Dolby Vision possibly?

If so, this will be giving you the impression of DV (HDR) all of the time but, it is a faux setting and a sure fire way to accelerate the demise of your TV.

There is some content in DV via Apple TV, granted but, it's not exactly bursting at the seems when compared to the likes of Netflix.

I just thought it may be prudent to check.

Your settings for output should read like this; 4K SDR 50Hz or 60Hz and then go to Video and Audio > Match Content and enable 'Match Dynamic Range' and enable 'Match Frame Rate'.

Re: Sky HDR

So new box has arrived and it indeed is HDR capable. Just a quick question? My original box was a 2GB V1. I know this due to the silver trim on the box. However, is their a way to determine if this new box is a V2 or V3? Hardware version is 32B206 if that's any help. Cheers in advance.
